Brought my wife to the train this morning for her last trip to work
Like attending your own funeral - Lehman Brothers, Jersey City. Waiting for the call to bring the boxes. Bummed.

And the only sound thats left
After the ambulances go
Is cinderella sweeping up
On desolation row

2. Best of luck to your wife and to you, JD
It totally sucks that so many people--like your wife--who had nothing to do with the irresponsibility and mismanagement rampant in the upper echelons of a company are the ones to feel the sting first.

7. I'm sorry to hear that.

My first job out of college was at Merrill Lynch. They're being bought by BofA after bleeding for many years. I wonder if many of the other financial services firms will survive.

8. You can thank Richard Fuld and David Einhorn
and this Administration for your predicament.

I'm sorry. I know people there. You don't deserve this.

13. The hatred for Fuld at Lehman is palpable
The employees there were completely in the dark. They had no clue until last spring that anything at all was wrong. As recently as one month ago they were all told there would be no more layoffs this year and that year end bonuses would definitely be paid.

Those laid off in the spring were the lucky one. At least they received some severance.

this economic 'meltdown' reaches so many people. Good luck to you both and give your wife an extra hug from me, as I'm sure that she is in shock. You'll both get by.

14. Thank you and thank you all
When she left this morning she was most upset about not seeing so many friends again after today. They have been saying goodbye to each other for the past several days but everyone thought a rescue would come.

158 years washed down the drain by one decade of unrestrained greed.

12. Sorry!
It is important for people like you to remind the world that real people are suffering directly as a result of what these scumbags have done to our country, but that does not lessen your pain and the impact on your family!!!

18. Thanks, but not feeling sorry for ourselves
We'll probably wind up downsizing the house, delay retirement (sigh). Between Lehman (25,000) and Merrill (24,000 estimated layoffs) there will probably be 50,000 looking for jobs. She'll find something else, probably for less money. She moved all her Lehman stock out of her 401 last spring so things are OK in that respect.

The ones I feel sorry for are the 30+ year employees who had their retirement funds heavily tilted towards Lehmen. Some will never be able to retire now.

25. Well I'm happy to hear
that it won't be devestating to your financial situation.

Good luck with your changes. So many people going through this now. One of my dad's friends retired recently, and most of his retirement was in Lehman stock (due to options). It's really sad.

But w/ Citi/Smith Barney.

We have our fingers crossed that they can ride it out, and avert the "day of the boxes." Stressful.

It's a bloodbath on Wall Street. My bro's at GS, too. For now, anyway.

It's good that DUers get to hear us. These industries are in some ways the backbone of and route to the middle class for very many workers in NYC, Chicago, etc. Representing them as ONLY the huge fat cats is plain wrong. The support staffs and even many in the investment chairs are Democrats. Many are not, true, but the employees of these companies come more from the outer boroughs and Jersey, not the Upper West Side.

I hope that after looting Lehman and lying to all the help, Fuld never has moment of sound sleep for the rest of his life.

Best wishes to you and the Mrs., Jersey Devil. We're all on this boat together.
