I just saw a bunch of idiots on CNN being interviewed saying that they are going to vote for McCain because they are "conservatives" and "believe in small government" and that whole rigamarole.

This is a philosophy that has been debunked as thoroughly as the notion of the moon being made of green cheese, but just about half of us STILL believe in it.
