67. I agree that the GOP is definitely distancing themselves
they're up for re-election...and one of the reasons Bush did not want to make an appeal to the people...but was forced to more or less...last week the WH said Bush would stay out of the way and leave it all up to Bernanke and Paulson... the other day Hoyer suggested Bush should speak to the people...this week Pelosi said... they can ALL do it or no one would...tonight, Bush is speaking

Bush = GOP = Bailout = Disaster economy = <~~ they wanted to avoid this

McCain especially...he's GOP.

This isn't to say that people won't spin it as best they can...they will.

54. McCain and the Republican Congress Members are using this to distance
themselves from Bush and his administration.

And conveniently, this is happening right before the election when they badly need to convince people there is any difference there.

I'm really beginning to wonder if Paulson's plan was drawn up so badly on purpose so they could do this - a real smoke and mirrors plot.

Then McCain can then try to claim that he brought bipartisan agreement to a more workable plan (of course, it would be heavily loaded with trickle down BS and other trickery).

And the Republican is Congress can then use this to point to and claim how apart they are from Bush even though they were instrumental in getting the US economy into this mess through their insistence on deregulation, etc.

We can't let them get away with this.

"We are still working through housing and capital markets issues, and expect to be

"We are seeing signs of progress as capital and credit markets stabilize. The markets
