McCain's bailout setup (timeline)
I can't believe the press' credulity on this BS. Is this really hard to figure out?

Wednesday: McCain, desperate to avoid being crushed in a debate at the end of a very bad week for him, "suspends" his campaign, ostensibly to hammer out a bailout deal, despite the fact that no one needed him to go. Then he cancels on David Letterman to do an interview with Katie Couric. He doesn't actually go to DC till the next day.

Thursday 1pm: After two hours of negotiations, Democratic and Republican senators emerge from talks saying an agreement has been reached in principle. The Dow Jones responds by moving to 302.02 points up on the day. Things seem to be working out, and a bill seems imminent, possibly on Thursday, making McCain look clueless and giving him no excuse to skip the debate.

At about the same time, McCain leaves his Senate office and meets with Boehner to "rally support" in the House.

2pm: Boehner announces there is no deal, and cantankerous House Republicans begin to make a big show of their resistance.

So what went on in this meeting? Was McCain really trying to rally House support, or asking Boehner to drag his feet?

Now here are my predictions:

Tonight: McCain skips debate.

Tomorrow (or at least by Monday): House Republicans have a sudden change of heart, which they credit to the bold leadership of John McCain, and the bailout bill is passed.

Forever: The press swallows this bullshit greedily and begs for more.

there is no way you can trust Boehner..he is an asswipe....he is beholden to no one but his power...i agree with you that he is in cohoots with mccain to make this win win for both of them..mccain comes out like a hero to america (at least to the idiots in america) and boehner ends up looking like he cares about the little man...so transparent and so pitiful

2. back up a little further
Last Friday, Paulson submits his THREE PAGE proposal
Tuesday, McCain admits he hasn't read it yet (4 days is not enough time to read three pages?)

or back up a little further yet

"The fundamentals of the economy are strong"

then he is a newly-minted strong proponent of regulation

3. Yeah, we know all that.
My point is that McCain is actually DELAYING the deal, which is the precise opposite of what he's ostensibly there to do. He is ducking the debate, and using the crisis to do it. That's worse than just being wrong or lazy.

4. my point was to show that he brings nothing to the table but political grandstanding
If he had ever shown that he had something substantive to offer, the MSM could weasel out and say his input had some value.

5. True, but even if so
if it could be shown, or even theorized in the MSM that McCain had actually been an obstructionist in this mess, it would be hugely damaging to him.

7. yes, that is my point as well
If you bring nothing of value to the table, but insist on having a seat saved for you anyway, you are a vainglorious obstructionist. I was trying to provide evidence that he knew nothing, made no effort to learn anything, still knows nothing, yet is forcing himself into the scene.

6. Another thing to mention.
Obama was the one to contact the McCain campaign to put out a joint statement. There was no response, and then McLiar announced he was suspending his campaign. Obama, being someone that actually cares about the country, made a good faith effort with McCain and got bit on the hand for his trouble. McLiar then got bailed out by Bush when he requested them BOTH in Washington.

Lesson number one: do NOT ever attempt anything in good faith with a neocon. When they are down, take a baseball bat to their head (figuratively). They would do the same to you.
