When I factor in memory (I am not a spring chicken) of growing up in Blackwell, Oklahoma in a poor family that survived the Great Depression, I feel more than an Inkling of terror. I grew up on stories of Get-Along stew. (You throw everything you can find in the soup and then eat it just so you can Get-Along.) I remember other stories, like my grandfather losing his farm because, after he harvested a crop of wheat, nobody had the money to buy it from him. I remember my grandfather telling me about riding a horse 200 miles because he heard a rumor (a false rumor actually) that there was a job. These memories, and my notions of the economy picked up in required college courses tell me that I, and most of my neighbors, may be about to lose everything.
