New Polls 09.29.08: NC, PA, OH, FL, CO, VA, National

The bad numbers for McCain continue...

I sound like a broken record but it's another bad day of polling for John McCain.

-- In North Carolina, Public Policy now has Obama up by 2%, 49% to 47%. This is the first time that Public Policy has shown Obama ahead in North Carolina. The last two polls of the state have had Obama up. It is pretty stunning that Obama has a lead in a state like North Carolina which has always been such a safe Republican state. And let's remember that there is a very good chance that these polls are underestimating African American turnout which, if it turns out to be higher, will only improve Obama's performance in the state.

-- In Pennsylvania, Morning Call, which is now doing a daily Pennsylvania tracking poll, has Obama up by 7% while FOX News/Rasmussen now has Obama up by 8%. A week ago, FOX News/Rasmussen had Obama up by just 3%, so his support in Pennsylvania seems to have solidified over the past few days. It's beginning to look like McCain will have a hard time winning this election without Pennsylvania, and it's looking like Pennsylvania may be moving out of play for him.

-- In Virginia, FOX News/Rasmussen has Obama leading 50% to 47%. A week ago, FOX News/Rasmussen had McCain up by 2%.
