Keep in mind that today's market decline may have been engineered.
When your president screams "The sky is falling" and your GOP presidential candidate announces "Life as we know it will end on Monday is no deal is reached" and on Monday your campaign does something inexcusable like running its mouth off claiming that it single handedly brokered the deal which everyone knows is a lie, leading the Dems to fire back and leading the GOP to call off the deal....

Well, let's just say that to my way of thinking, this strikes me as deliberate market manipulation. A lot of people were selling in a panic.

What I would like to know is who was buying?

During the Great Depression the uber rich were caught causing these types of panics in which they were snatch up stocks which would then go up in value.

If there is a sudden drop that no one predicts, that is probably natural. But if several political players insist that there will be a fall and it happens just as they claim---you have to start wondering if their business buddies are the ones who did the buying.

1. I don't think it's even that conspiratorial...
They simply said "we need a $700 billion bailout." When it looked like the bailout would pass, Wall Street celebrated. Then when it didn't pass, the market took a nosedive. Pretty predictable isn't it? If they had said and done nothing we wouldn't have seen this crash today would we? THEY set the timeline and the market reacted right on cue.
