3. It isn't that they don't like the word; it's that they are stupid
Republicans are members of the Republican Party.
Democrats are members of the Democrat Party.

Keep in mind, these are GOPper we are talking about. Anything other than home schooling by theocrats is seen as intellectual elitism.

4. I've always wanted to know that, too
I know the history behind it - Goldwater was the first to use it.

But why is it supposed to be such a huge insult?. Also, it's bad grammar. It's as if we called theirs the "Republic" party.

It makes no sense as a putdown.

6. It was said that the reason why was...
because to most Americans, no matter what the cause "Democratic" is a positive word. We are a Democratic Republic, and we want other nations to be Democratic, and so on... so they wanted to make it Democrat because that is a BRAND NAME.

7. Can some English teacher give us a quick, educated retort to use
Against Republicans when they say that? If they're made to look like fools enough times, maybe they'll stop using it-- then again, maybe not!

10. I think people here get way too worked up about that.
When republicans say "the democrat party", it only makes them look petty and stupid, IMO.

But it gets partisan-type democrats' panties all in a wad, which they love, so personally, I wouldn't pay it any mind.

Personally, I'm glad they say that, because when they do, it's a surefire sign that the person you are talking to is a loon who watches way too much Fox and listens to way too much Rush for their own good.

I'm not a democrat (I just vote for them now and then for lack of an actual leftist choice) so it doesn't get my panties in a wad.

Just yesterday, I was excoriated by tone of the members here for not capitalizing the word "democratic".

It's just a political party. The fact that it's slightly less evil than the other doesn't mean we should all kowtow to its holiness.

I neglect capitals on a lot of things - big whoop.

Anyway, back to "democrat party" - it's petty and stupid and about as deserving of attention as Palin's moronic winks and phoney-baloney "doggone-its".
