Job approval rating sinks for Bush

By SUSAN PAGE • USA TODAY • October 7, 2008

WASHINGTON — The Dow isn’t the only thing that’s dropped in the current economic crisis. Now President Bush’s approval rating has fallen to a record low.

A Gallup Poll taken Friday through Sunday finds only 25 percent of Americans approve of the way Bush is handling the job of president; 70 percent disapprove.

That’s the lowest approval and the highest disapproval of his eight years in office. His approval rating has dropped 8 percentage points in a month.
The telephone survey of 1,011 adults has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 points.

“He’s already paid the approval price for the Iraq war” with ratings that have been dismal for two years, says Richard Eichenberg, a Tufts University political scientist. ”Now, in addition, with the horrible economic news ... some of the blame is obviously being laid to him.”

White House spokesman Scott Stanzel, acknowledging Americans’ concerns, says the president is focused on the economy and motivated “by his desire to protect our nation and address our economic needs, not by daily tracking polls.”

Since 1938, when Gallup began measuring presidential approval, only two presidents have scored ratings as low or lower: Harry Truman (22 percent in 1952) and Richard Nixon (24 percent in 1974).

17. Who are the 25%?
Are they polling mental institutions, the possessed, the lobotomized, or is 25% approval the number you get when 50% don't understand the question?

16. For those 24%, I'm not sure the term "intelligence" applies
Anyone with any degree of rationality has to know that the Bush legacy is failure and more failure. He has brought more devastation to the country than Bin Laden ever could have. Worst. President. Ever.

7. Yes And Gallup Had An Axe To Grind in 1952
They were not a scientifically valid polling service until WELL into the 60's, so the Truman numbers are not valid. His approval was MUCH higher than 22%. There have been papers published on what Gallup did wrong when they got that 22%, some coming out AT THE TIME!

It seems to me George (another one!!) was shilling for consumer goods manufacturers ... marketing research. He wasn't as much interested in what people already thought as much as how they could be SOLD something ... like movies. If I recall, he got into things like subliminals and associative marketing. Sex sells. Product placement. Ad placement.

14. Mostly Fear
Or abject stupidity. This guy hasn't even been good for most rich people! But, they've played the fear card to the hilt and there are some people who still buy it.
