Straight jackets needed over at the Free Republic.....

OK, here's the article, from the cesspool called the American Spectator, that's the subject of the FR post:

Special Report
Prepare for the Worst

By Peter Ferrara
Published 10/8/2008 12:08:08 AM

Just two weeks ago, a book on economic policy was released that will be a classic for the ages. Entitled The End of Prosperity, by Art Laffer, Steve Moore, and Peter J. Tanous, the book explains in full detail the economic disaster that will befall America if it takes a sharp left turn to neo-socialism under the leadership of the far left President Barack Obama, the ultraleft Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid with 60 liberal Democrat Senators, and their pal the ultraliberal Howard Dean heading the Democrat party.

Indeed, one of the insights of the book is that a major factor already tanking the stock market and leading foreign capital to flee America is the threat of the economic policies promised by Obama. Obama proposes increases in every major federal tax, on savers, investors, employers, small business, big business, and anyone who would start a business. Obama also promises to add additional federal spending of almost $1.5 trillion over the next four years, including a new global war on poverty in which Obama would tax Americans and send the money to the UN to spend worldwide (already introduced by Obama in legislation). That would be on top of all the spending increases already scheduled for our exploding entitlements and other programs. Obama also promises a massive increase in regulatory controls, even though government regulation is already estimated to cost America over $1 trillion per year, about $8,000 in lost output for every U.S. household. Then there is Obama's attack on free trade and promises of protectionist trade policies that contributed so much to the Great Depression. ......More at: http://www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=14015

and here are some of the Freeper responses: :freak:

On the bright side, after two years of the Uberleft running the country, the Repubs will retake both houses of Congress in 2010. Unfortunately, by then Obama will have packed the courts with Marxist hatemongers and largely destroyed the financial markets.

.......snip......

OMG, what a NIGHTMARE!!!!

Not for William Ayers, Osama bin Laden, Michael Moore, Castro, Hugo Chavez and the rest of America's enemies...........

2. Apparently, the Democrats are an incredibly powerful force.
In less than two years of outright rule in the House, and a slim majority in the Senate (that has blocked virtually every Dem proposal), while functioning in a hostile executive and judicial branch, the Dems have managed to utterly ruin America. And here our side was thinking they were ineffective.

4. NOTICE THIS: "Obama proposes increases in every major federal tax, ..."
"Obama proposes increases in every major federal tax, on savers, investors, employers, small business, big business, and anyone who would start a business."

Who's missing in this list of what the fascist right thinks is important?? Does anyone notice?

Where are employees??? Where's the working class? It's labor that CREATES wealth ... but the reichbots are more concerned with the plantation owners than the field labor ... slaves to the enrichment of the already wealthy.

These people are despicable. :grr:

6. It will go down in history as the most successful mass brainwashing ever.
Millions of working people absolutely, totally convinced that giving their rich corporate masters more money is somehow going to help them too. Look at how well that meme has withstood almost 3 decades of data proving it to be wrong!

10. Charaltans, Just Like The Two Dolts Who Wrote This Screed. . .
. . .published an nearly identical book just before Clinton was elected. It predicted economic doom and industrial armageddon.

Wrong then. . .wrong now.

It's certainly convenient when somebody's thimble full of economics knowledge lets the BELIEVE whatever they want, even when the data show that their BELIEF is never what really happens.

9. I read this exchange earlier:
"Incredibly, McCain even let Obama get away with lamenting the high deficit."

And the response:

"It is not like McCain to speak ill (or even candidly) of a "good friend from across the aisle".

I wish I had mass quantities of whatever these folks are ingesting. Maybe I could forget about all
the money I've lost in the last few weeks.

13. by the author of the "Laffer Curve"
as I understand it, the Laffer Curve (very appropriately, homophonically named) is one of the most simplistic pieces of mathematical reasoning ever. Supposedly (perhaps apocryphally) it was originally drawn on a cocktail napkin. Take two extreme cases: on the left side of the graph the government taxes at a zero percent rate, hence there is zero revenue. At the other extreme, the government taxes at a 100 percent rate, so there is no incentive to work and revenue is again zero. So, you have two points on a graph, then you make a bunch of assumptions and connect them somehow and voila, you can show that lowering taxes raises revenue because there is more incentive to work so you produce more, generating more economic growth, blah, blah, woof, woof.

15. To a lot of them, anyone left of THEIR far-right positions - even moderates! - are
'liberals'. You may remember many of them even though Bush Sr. was a 'liberal'! I lived in Colo. Spgs. for 2 years, and a guy I worked with fit this profile too. He was kind of medium-to-far right, but because CS is so far right, he thought he was kind of a moderate! Needed to get out and see the world a bit to see where he REALLY stood...

"...far left President Barack Obama, the ultraleft Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid with 60 liberal Democrat Senators, and their pal the ultraliberal Howard Dean heading the Democrat party."

The middle has shifted so far to the right in this country, that all of these people they call extreme leftist are actually somewhere to the right of Nixon!!

Freeps are delusional, living in their own reality.
