Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 10:01 PM by Bluebear
After a woman calls Obama “an Arab,” McCain interrupts to say: “No, ma’am. He is a decent family man, citizen.”

====

Way to tamp down the hate, McCain. Loser.

2. It was half ass defending him
He should've said "even if he is, we're a country of all walks of life no matter what race, gender, religion, sexual orientation and we should be accepting of those to be able to participate in public officer no matter what race, gender, religion, and sexual orientation.

12. Half the country had a warped soul before 9/11
They were just in the closet about it. Our Republican lowest common denominator rabble rousing fascist government and media told them that the evil primitive mouth breathers were the Greatest Murkas. It let them know that they were'nt alone in their evil. Kind of like child molesters after the dawn of the internet.

16. People hated Arabs in this country before 9/11
9/11 just gave them the ability to be in the open about it.

21. Yeah about 50% of people seem to be inable to get passed the concept of "other"
There's a fair bit of racial/ethnic hatred, thought a lot less, on the left as well.

8. The Arabs and Middle Easterners in my neighborhood seem to be
a lot less offended than I am by this nonsense. At least that they will admit to. They are probably pretty disgusted and hurt inside, but far too proud to admit it.

17. I can't speak for all
But generally most of Southwest asians and Middle easterns are very nice, friendly, takes alot to get them upset. They appreciate the finer things america has to offer that many americans take for granted.

I think he was just trying to calm the situation.

15. Pisses me off
My family has bled for this country. My family came here out of choice and fought for it. We've helped build this country. My family members helped teach our children, designed part of the Alaska pipeline, ran fortune 500 businesses, architected buildings, delivered babies, healed the sick, designed jewelry, helped bring American democracy abroad, and more. We haven't been here long but we started out by bleeding on Okinawa in World War 2.

Whenever people say 'no no he's not an arab, he's a decent man" or the like, even here on this board, it twitch. Since I was young I've been made to feel unwelcome in my own country. I've been physically attacked multiple times because of who I am. I've had my ethnicity demeaned in front of me multiple times, a number of times in class, a few times in front of teachers, none of who have stopped it.

I've been called a terrorist. I've been told to get out of my own country. I've even been called a horse thief...because apparently all arabs are horse thieves.

I've had my grandmother called a terrorist. I've had people say it'd be better off if my family were obliterated.

I've had my name called in many a public situation only to have half the room turn and look at me with 'that look'.

I've been taken back into the special room and strip searched in airports as part of 'random' checks. I've been taken and had automatic weapons pointed at me as another officer asked me questions. I've gotten used to going to the airport early.

so....yeah it pisses me off, and more and more I wonder whether I should stay in this country which all too often doesn't seem like it wants me or my family or anything we've done for it, or any of the blood we've spilled for it.

so fuck you crazy haired lady.

Fuck you.

20. I agree with what you're saying, but I think he was truly apoplectic-
No one'll ever accuse me of trying to put myself in John McCain's shoes. But I think her obtuseness mixed with her fear, vanity, ignorance and her huge, trusting idolatry in a SPLIT SECOND told him everything he needed to hear about his base. He looked absolutely startled. And out of sheer habit he tried to keep her loyalty & "translate". And did a fine impersonation of a jackass in the process.

Tonight, I watched a panel on political linguistics and one of the guys said that Rove had put together a working group that reviewed the literature on implicit vs. explicit racism.

Fuck John McCain, Sarah Palin, Karl Rove and their whole operation.

30. He has allowed his campaign, Sarah in particular, to incite mob violence & NOW he's surprised?!
Frankly, on this occasion and one other where he was standing with Ms Prophecy while she stirred up the mob, he looked genuinely taken aback at the sludge that floated up. Too bleeding late, you old bastard. Someone is going to try to take out Bill Ayers now, and I can only hope they miss. If I were Ayers, I'd be on a long leave of absence from this country.

And, as Rachel Maddow and now some Republicans with a conscience are starting to point out, this country has a history of political violence ending in assassination. Rachel's photo montage and commentary tonight on the "Bomb Obama!" cry from the mob was exactly what needs to be said out loud in the MSM. I was only a child in the 1950s, a high schooler and college student in the 1960s, and I remember that shit all too well. Jesus -- the animal hatred that lurks beneath the surface of the unstable and unhinged, seemingly ordinary people who are susceptible to being stirred to violence.

I hope McCain is abandoned in disgust by everyone but that small percentage of Kool-ade drinkers the Pubs call their "base" -- the nutballs whose basest instincts they can count on.

Hekate
