Fighting Planned Parenthood's intimidation tacticsCharlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 10/11/2008 4:10:00 AM
Planned Parenthood is again attacking an Aurora, Illinois, pro-life group.
It all began when the Pro-Life Action League tried to expose Planned Parenthood's construction of an abortion clinic by allegedly devious means. League spokesman Eric Scheidler claims the federally funded abortion provider used illegal tactics against them.
"They decided to attack their opponents -- myself, my father, the Pro-life Action League, and the other people out here in Aurora -- who didn't want to have a massive abortuary in our town, and called us violent criminals with a history of encouraging others to engage in violence and intimidation, which is patently false. And they know it," he contends.
Scheidler sued Planned Parenthood for libel and slander, but lost the case. "What Planned Parenthood is doing now is using a law in Illinois, which many other states have, too, which (protects) small grassroots activists from being intimidated out of speaking out by large developers who have a lot of money and threaten to sue them," he adds. "They've turned this law completely upside down."
The process makes the pro-life group the aggressor rather than Planned Parenthood, which is now asking for over $300,000 in attorney fees. Scheidler says he will appeal the case.
