Employeefreedom.org: Another scummy telephone attack!
There's another script out there from "employeefreedom.org"

"Hi (my first name)

Did you know that 80% of unions don't pay out their pensions? Did you know that Kay Hagan wants to work with unions to take away your pension?"

That was the gist of it.

Fucking rat bastards.

:grr: :grr:

The only previous DU thread I found about this awful group was one in the Maine forum:

So, who are they? They sound exactly like the Freedom's Watch group (Ari Fleischer) but I can't be certain.

2. Animated?

Nope, That was the first one this morning.

I expect a couple of more before the end of the day, though. :-(

Did it sound like a cartoon?

3. I meant to write "recorded"
It wasn't a live person. It just sounded nutty and desperate to me. But, they did indeed call here first thing in the morning.

4. Oh yeah, all of these have been recorded

Did they use your first name? That was especially wierd.

Mostly I've gotten calls from Ari Fleischer's group, but this was a different 527, an anti-union one, so that was new.

Yes, the tone of it sounds like a personal assault, like if they were standing in the room with you they'd beat you up.

These groups making these calls really sound like cornered animals to me.

What was the subject of your call?

6. It's an astroturf organization...
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 11:50 AM by Blue Belle
These organizations give the appearance of being grassroots non-profit organizations but they are really paid for and run by corporations. They've been airing TV ads and take out full page ads in Newspapers against pro-union candidates. This organization in particular is run by Rick Berman.
<SNIP> "Past Berman campaigns worked to create doubt about the harm of second-hand smoke or the link between fast food and obesity, defended tanning operations against cancer concerns, or argued that increases in the minimum wage hurt low-wage workers."

They are ramping up the anti-union sentiment because congress will be voting on the Employee Free Choice Act. <SNIP> "EFCA is a bill in Congress that would make it easier for workers to unionize and get a collective bargaining agreement. Seen as a way to turn around decades of decline in union membership, EFCA is far-and-away the top political priority of the American labor movement.

Last year, the bill passed the House, and had the support of the majority in the Senate. But backers were nine votes short of the three-fifths majority needed to end a filibuster (cut off debate) and bring a bill to a vote in the Senate."

The senate is dangerously close to gaining a filibuster-prof majority causing this bill to pass.

7. Thank you for the info
That's what I was looking for.

I couldn't think why they would be bringing this up in NC, it's not like we have a lot of union fights (another story, but still)
