Paul Craig Roberts: "Has Deregulation Sired Fascism?"
Deregulation as a path and tool of Fascism. Hadn't thought of it that way - until now.

Ex-Asst. Treasury Sec. Paul Craig Roberts on Wall St. Bailout: "Has Deregulation Sired Fascism?"
http://www.democracynow.org/2008/10/17/ex_asst_treasury_sec_paul_craig

As the Bush administration announces a $250 billion plan to partially nationalize the nation’s banking system, we speak to Paul Craig Roberts, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Department in the Reagan administration and a former associate editor of the Wall Street Journal. Roberts says the latest bank measure suggests the bailout is “either incompetence or fraud.”

4. They didn't call themselves "National Socialists" for nuthin'.

Fascism has ALWAYS been about privatizing the profits and socializing the debts ... to the background chants of 'patriotism' and 'God.' "Country First" is a prototypical fascist slogan.

8. I think that's backwards.
I think "fascism" (or at least that mindset) sired deregulation.

Of course, I'm not Paul Craig Roberts. *snort* I'm not an economist either but I knew something ugly was coming our way long before those experts did. I also knew the excuses given for the Iraq invasion were BS, too. Hell, too bad I can't see Russia from my porch or I might be qualified to be VP.

10. He should have thought of the evils of deregulation back in the early 80s.
Reagan and Thatcher caused a lot of this mess in the first place. Until Roberts explicitly says Reagan was wrong, I find him hard to take seriously.
