Here's a candidate who really needs some DU help: Dick Von Stein. He is running against Republican majority leader John Boehner in Ohio's 8th District (just northwest of Cincinnati).
Of all the Republicans in Congress, John Boehner is the one who most needs to be retired. At the very least, we need to give Boehner a real run for his money.
Von Stein faces a really, really tough challenge. Not only is Boehner one of the biggest porkers in Congress, but media in the Cincinnati, southern Ohio area is strongly controlled by right-wingers. Von Stein needs a lot of money to keep up.
I do not personally know Von Stein, so I checked out his website and this is what I learned.
http://votevonstein.com/index.php?page=display&id=1Von Stein was born in the 8th District is an Air Force veteran and majored in political science.
Here are a couple of excerpts from his website:
Nick von Stein is running for Congress to help this country return to the strong middle class society that we had in the past. Inequality between the rich and poor in this country are at historic levels. During the last thirty years the incomes of the very rich have risen dramatically, while those within the middle class are dealing with stagnant wage growth coupled with rising health care costs. America is ceasing to be the country where a citizen can work hard and expect to raise a family in reasonable comfort. He wants to help reduce this inequality by voting for legislation that eases the pressure off the middle class and broadens the safety net that our government should be expected to provide. We need representatives that seek to serve the entire country, not what is best for the top 1%.

Iraq
We need a quick and safe return of our troops from Iraq. As a veteran of the United States Air Force, I understand the sacrifices made by service members and their families. . . . .
Healthcare
. . . .
Every American has the right to affordable, portable heath insurance and comprehensive quality care in all areas of medical practice. The most important step we can take to save lives is to guarantee eligibility for health insurance. Eliminating the need to screen for preexisting conditions greatly reduces the administrative efforts and costs on insurance providers; insurance companies no longer need to devote large sums of money to identify high-risk applicants. The ability to move from job to job without changing or jeopardizing heath care coverage provides incentives for insurance providers to invest in preventative care, which is essential to the long-term health of our country.

http://thinkprogress.org/2007/05/24/boehner-weeps-again/The New Republic reports on John Boehner's pork:
John Boehner, Pork Maligned
So this is what happens when you accede to adding $150 billion of pork to a bailout bill your constituents disliked in the first place:
WEST CHESTER, Ohio -- One of Rep. John Boehner’s local offices was evacuated Monday afternoon after a suspicious package arrived in the mail. Staffers received the letter from Georgia by U.S. mail. After noticing it was leaking an oily substance, they called the Capitol police in Washington, who advised them to evacuate as a precaution and call in local authorities. Multiple police agencies responded to the Republican congressman’s West Chester office and began an investigation.
After an X-ray analysis, investigators determined the package contained bacon.
