The Republican voter fraud hoax
Brad Friedman - October 13 2008

Despite the screaming wall-to-wall coverage of "Democratic voter fraud in 11 swing states" as seen on Fox News and even the once-respectable CNN, none of it's true. None of it.
...
That will be the November surprise, when thousands, if not millions show up to vote only to find they are no longer welcome to do so and are forced to vote on a "provisional ballot" which may or may not be counted.

These real concerns of election fraud, such as voting roll purges, electronic voting machines that don't work and so much more that actually matters, have been obscured by the smoke and mirrors and sleight of hand of the Republican party's phoney Acorn voter fraud charade.

CBS Has Noticed, Why Hasn't Obama or the DNC?

The CBS story, posted below (appx 2 mins) starts with an elderly New Jersey voter who was suddenly removed from the voting rolls after thirty years, for apparently no reason whatsoever, before launching into findings from a new non-partisan Brennan Center for Justice study on "Voter Purges".

(Note: "Voter Purging" simply means your State, for whatever reason, has crossed-off Names from the State's Registered Voters List.)

4. They have. But it's still infuriating.
They fought the foreclosure bs. Then there's Obama's most recent demand that Mukasey get off his god damned ass. And the DNC fighting voter suppression.

I'm finding this delayed result in voting rights very disturbing. We've had years. And, some of it, if not all, is criminal. What the hell! I see talk of more than just talk, if this election is ripped off.

Three recent examples

6. thank you for the links
this is encouraging at least....

Below is an email from DNC legal eagle Joe Sandler, which he has authorized me to blog.

From the email:

The issues raised by the NYT are ones well familiar to the campaign, which has addressed them around the country. Particularly where we see evidence that these "matching" problems are being exploited by the Republicans, with the intention of sowing confusion and blocking access to the polls, we have taken legal action. We are monitoring and responding appropriately on a continuous basis.

It is important to keep in mind the following:

1. Generally, the matching issues have no bearing on voter eligibility. The article regularly confuses matching issues with a "purge".

2. In many cases, there are explanations for the dropping of names without effect on the specific voter: where there are duplicate registrations, for example, resulting from an in-state move, and one of the names and addresses sets is removed.

3. It is not correct that the Social Security Administration expressed concern about voters being "blocked" by the use of SSNs. The SSA letter complained that it was being deluged with verifications that it did not believe it should to perform, a consequence of voters with licenses providing SSNs instead.

The most serious problem is the Republicans' manipulation of this uncertainty and misunderstanding to discourage voters and raise fears of "fraud". The Republican party, in Ohio , Wisconsin and Montana are seizing on matching issues of one kind or the other to manufacture the impression of massive illegal registration and to prepare to challenge voters.

We are winning those fights: a 6,000 voter Republican challenge program in Montana has ended, dropped when the Republicans were hit with lawsuits and public opinion turned hard against them. In Michigan, Republicans are now retreating and denying, under oath in an action filed by OFA and the DNC, that they will be using foreclosure lists to challenge. In Ohio and Wisconsin , we are actively supporting the Secretary of State ( Ohio ) and the responsible state agency ( Wisconsin ) in defending against Republican legal attacks organized around bogus "matching" issues.

7. It seems that our voting rights are not equal.
As I read your post I suddenly thought about how we've been bullied by a group. It resulted in reversed elections, and uncertainty. This is wrong. Just as wrong as separate but equal. I am not educated in voter law. But it seems to me that something is gravely wrong here, and we need a Brown v Board of Education for voting. This would not allow one group to dominate.

I wonder if we already have voter rights like this. I doubt it. Otherwise why would this be happening. The most basic premise of our society is flapping in the breeze.

9. Already voted for Obama and encouraged my friends and relatives to do so NOW. Early.
To say that the Democrats are trying to do something about this is ludicrous.

The Democrats have been SILENT on this. THE DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS have violated their oath of office to protect and defend the constitution of the United States. They are complicit in whatever crimes are perpetrated by the Republican Party voter suppression efforts in this election, just as they were in 2004.

2000 was the wake-up call, but the Democratic leadership CHOSE to remain asleep at the wheel. Now we are in grave peril because of THEM.

If Obama actually becomes President I hope that the euphoria of that moment will not sway us from our duty to impeach Pelosi and Reid and replace them with Democrats who believe in and uphold the Constitution.
