Regarding misspelled words
I know it's funny to go to freeperville and make fun of the misspelled words and to come back here and laugh about it. Some of the mistakes are quite funny to me, too.

However, there are A LOT of misspelled words here ("Check Spelling" anyone?), words used incorrectly, and certainly quite a bit of improper usage that are genuine mistakes by posters here at DU.

Nobody is perfect, and mistakes are to be expected. But when people purposely misspell words, the joke is lost on a lot of the readers. One example that comes to mind is, "HUGH!!" How do we know that you didn't just misspell that word rather than spell it that way to ridicule freepers?

Perhaps I am overly sensitive to the misspelling and improper usage, but it happens enough on its own, that adding misspelled words simply as an inside joke may not always work IMHO. I worry that these inside jokes may make some of the posters here look ignorant, especially to people who are new to this site, or to the media that often looks at this site.

Obviously people will continue to do this if they think it's funny, but keep in mind that a lot of people are reading these words. Just my two cents, or maybe my HUGH!! two cents.

Flame if you want to, but I just really needed to post this.

73. DU Glossary here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_oet&address=358x190

Very helpful - highly recommend for newbies, and those not so new.

"n/t" (even stuff like this is in the glossary) means "no text" following, in other words the entire message appears in the subject line; nothing else follows.

coffee with several times a week. I didn't even look at it once I found the elephant, but a friend pointed out the misspelling. I forwarded it to one of the local newspapers, the editor of which is a lefty. He printed the letter I wrote to go with it.

I think her website was written by Sarah Palin.

23. I'm quite dyslexic, so I often type words that sound similar
to the intended word, or are spelled similarly-but have a totally different meaning (like "lose" instead of "loose"). I agree; most of us make plenty of mistakes. I think the thing that's noticeable when it comes to Freeper misspellings is the sheer volume of them in a single sentence or paragraph, or the signs they put up for public consumption that are badly misspelled ("Moran" and "Muslin" come to mind). Those aren't as easily forgiven.

25. I misspell words here at DU
and members insult me.....are they freepers? I have a touch of dyslexia which causes me to misspell on an occasion, I also use other keyboards while say at work, type in a hurry or use my tiny PDA pad, also make a mistake.

So, what is up with members who want to tease and bagger other members over such a benign issue? Why the the need to harass or insult another? I think such people are feeling inferior, shame-based and possibly suffer from being sexually abused and or are alcoholics.

Discarded, yep. Disregarded, sure.

DisGard is actually a trademark of some medical supply-thingie.

Some rules just need to yield to new words that make perfect sense. "Stupider", for example.

30. There are typos and omission mistakes that many of us make
-and then there are the sorts of misspellings, misuses and grammatical errors that indicate that a person is barely literate, and rarely ever reads or writes.

Those are typically what I see in comments by right wingers on message boards. Makes one wonder how in the world they ever got through ELEMENTARY school.

but no doubt this site is filled with a bunch of pretentious ass holes that quite often don't even pay attention to the CONTENT they just focus on picking apart your spelling, grammar ect.... No doubt this is and old boy's club too! Just like anywhere else you go in life even though we all think we have something in common with this site because of the fact that we are liberal these people are sometimes just as sicking as any Group of people. If you have a number that is less than 1000, Good Fucking Luck! Now, that is in part because of so many freepers joining on line, but still there is a click here no doubt!! I come here to learn there are some people that post the most informative info I could ever hope to find. Then there are people that are just nice and want to help and make contact, then there are the majority of the rest. They are the problem and they are the majority. If your not a freeper I Apologize. 48. Your so rite. I think it's called "register switching."
The internet is seen as a more informal mode than other written forms, so people are more loose in their writing. It's similar to how I'll describe something as "real big" when I'm talking to a friend, but I wouldn't dare write it or use it when speaking formally.

54. I blame texting.
And that most of the freepers are not "low information voters" like the GOP-controlled media calls them, but instead they are "talk radio information voters."

They've never seen the words written; they've only heard them.

So, they just guess at the spelled based on how it sounds.

None of which, of course, I can remember right now.

Although, I confess, I still mistype "important" as "inportant," because that's how it sounded to me growing up.

63. Spell check is your friend.
I get very, very tired of posts filled with misspellings that spell check would catch. We all make mistakes. If you use a wrong word that is otherwise correctly spelled, spell check won't help. But I also am tired of HUGH, and series, and moran and all the other supposedly cute misspellings that are from freeperland. And when someone here doesn't bother to do a simple spell check it makes DU look like a bunch of idiots.

And, one more time: eye tee apostrophe s (it's) is a contraction for it is. The possessive has no contraction. Please try to get that straight.
