Iraq tells US it will not sign pact then Gates threatens them

Iraq has told the US it is not going to be forced into signing a security pact.

While US leaders have warned of potentially serious consequences if Iraq fails to complete the deal, Iraq’s Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, said Washington would need to agree to changes to the agreement, which formalizes the long-term presence of US troops in the country.

But the White House has said any new amendments would only be fine-tuning to the already completed drafts.

The Iraqi cabinet decided on Tuesday to seek revisions to a deal that was originally supposed to have been ratified by the end of July.
