Access to early voting in L.A. is SO UNIMPROVED SINCE 2004!
Last election I voted early in Van Nuys which is 5 miles away from my house -- this time the only early voting site they have listed is NORWALK! Centrally located if you're in NORWALK! Last time they had five or six early voting locations throughout the county....if they are going to have one, why not have it centrally located like in downtown LA rather than on the edge of the county like this?

It could easily take me an hour to get here from my house:

1. thats where the registrars office is
LOS ANGELES COUNTY
REGISTRAR-RECORDER/COUNTY CLERK
12400 IMPERIAL HIGHWAY
NORWALK, CA 90650

i vote permanent absentee in LA county, totally painless, easy to get signed up for as well (for next election maybe)

3. Huh...
...I didn't know we had early voting. That's like a 5 minute bus ride from my house, too.

4. I kind of agree with Robert Kennedy Jr. about "not going postal...."
I'm not really interested in voting by mail, I wanted to vote early in order to volunteer to do driving & phoning on election day. Now I guess maybe I'll just go early on election day. The election day voting is next door to my house!

5. seems about par for California
my early voting site (Santa Clara county) is in San Jose, a long drive for me and not easily accessible by public transportation. However, the vote-by-mail system works well: the county registrar now has a feature that lets you know when your ballot was sent, and when it was received. Looking at the county registrar's web site, it claims they're also letting people drop off their mail-in ballots at many city halls. I don't see anything similar for LA county, but call your registrar and ask: that's what they get paid for.

7. The problem with voting by mail
According to RFK-Jr., is that the same "challenges" can be made as when you vote in person like "oooh your DMV file doesn't have a middle name" or whatever, but unlike when you vote in person they can just decide your vote doesn't count without out you knowing, put it in a big black hole provisional pile.

When you vote in person they have to challenge you personally and offer you a provisional vote which you are advised to NEVER TAKE....as they can end up in the same pile as the mail-in vote and you'd never know.
