I have a big party going after we canvass that day and was wondering about the times, so I can make sure our team listens to the radio for updates...we here on the west coast will probably get results about 5 or so I would assume and by the time our work day is finished, we might already know who our next president is.
5. They don't report any results until all the polls are closed.
People complained that the networks would show a candidate with a commanding lead at 5 p.m. PT, leading a lot of people to either stay home or switch their vote.
There were cases in the past where a winner was declared before a lot of people had even voted.
Because in 2004 I had a team working for Kerry and we were having dinner at a college dining hall (where everybody could eat what they wanted) and it came over the radio at 5:15pm PST that Kerry had won the state. With computers I'm not sure they can stop the spread of the news. I am thinking they won't declare a winner until the west coast polls close or that they won't declare enough winning electoral votes until the west coast polls close..but I think that there might be some results in while are still out in the field working.
4. "Hey, Sully, can I ask a stupid question?" . . .
"Better than anyone I know, Paul."
Couldn't resist. That was the funniest line in a play I saw a few years back. Figured I'd share it, especially as you've learned what you needed to know (which wasn't a stupid quesiton at all, by the way).
