http://www.hauntedbay.com/features/BrookdaleLodge.shtmlMarta is you might say a student of midnight. She is fascinated by ghost stories. I never really gave it much thought, until it happened. I still cry when the subject comes up.
I met my first ghost here:
We stayed one night in the lodge on our way to see the Winchester house. It was cold on the mountain that night. A stream that runs through the middle of the dining room made it a very chilly place. We were eating dinner. Suddenly I felt very strange. Then I felt a sudden mood a sadness. I couldn't move. I couldn't even breath. I started crying. Marta was the only witness. I finally was able to tell Marta "she is standing right behind me". Marta said there is nobody there. I described a lady I could see in my minds eye. Then Marta saw breath in the cold room in the space right behind me, but not coming from anyone. It just appeared in the air. I knew very little about the ghost stories people tell about the lodge before dinner that night. We went there because Marta knew, and had wanted to go there for ages.
It was a very moving experience. I still remember that feeling. It would be years before I would have an experience anything like this again.
The next morning after breakfast in the restaurant (not the dinning room), I went to get our bags out of the room. Marta was still finishing off her breakfast. I had closed the door behind me when I went in. As I grabbed the handle to open the door, I felt what I call an electrical shock. Yet it wasn't really that. I opened the door to the second floor walkway. I had just stepped through a door in time. I saw everything as it had been many many years before. I saw the little girl that had drowned in the stream of the dinning room. She was skipping across the deck in front of me. Much different than my feeling the night before. I was mesmerized. Finally I closed the door. The feeling of shock left me. I opened the door and I was back in my own time. I went to tell Marta what happened.
The stream where the little girl drowned:
This was my only experience with ghosts until this August. While visiting my oldest daughter Bobbi in Denver, I stayed in the Hampton Inn in Parker. Nice newer place. On my way to put my bags in my room I felt something. I then saw something out of the corner of my eye. It didn't last long. It was gone. The feeling left me too. I asked at the front desk when checking out Sunday about any strange happenings in the hotel. The lady at the desk called the manager over. He told me there has never been a death or near death experience in the building that the motel is aware of. But some people on the staff refuse to work on the 4th floor! Guess which floor I was on.
