As I have posted before, I live in a very small town. For the past 6 years, a dedicated little group of about 8-10 people have met, every Friday at noon, in front of the post office in town. They hold signs that say Peace, or Stop the War.Some just stand. They are there, every Friday, rain, snow, sun, whatever. One of them was named Marty. She was a librarian in town and a very kind lady. The group is non partisan . They promote no candidate. Last week, as I posted here, a man showed up with a McCain Palin sign, and the group was very civil to him. Marty spoke to the man, and asked him if he was against the war. He said no. She told him that the group was there to object to the war. He said he didnt care , and was uncivil to her. He sort of poked her in the chest. I heard about it, and wondered why she didnt call the police. Marty was always a very gentle person. Marty passed on, on Wed of this week. She had a heart attack. Today, the group met, like they always do, in front of the post office. And 2 men showed up with McCain Palin signs. One of the people in the group politely asked the men with the signs if they wouldnt mind letting the group meet in peace and explained that their friend Marty had passed on,they wanted to meet in memory of Marty, because the group was sad and grieving and missed their friend. They didnt want to sully the peaceful gathering with contentiousness or politicking today. Marty had been there for 6 yrs, these guys had only shown up last week. This was a peace rally, not a candidates forum. The guys laughed and said no way. I say to you, those 2 men who showed up with those signs didnt even have the integrity or decency to let this peace group honour Marty today. What sad people those men are. what sad, sad, people.
