They are losing it over there.

Obama was asked if he spoke with former presidents.... He said that he has but that he didn't hold a seance ala nancy reagan to contact any dead presidents

45. Press conference this afternoon
question about whether Obama had spoken to any past presidents. He made a joke about only speaking to Presidents that were living, and made a quip about not doing seances, ala Nancy Reagan, to speak with the dead ones.

And you have to be a damned psychic around this place to follow these threads making vague TV references. People seem to assume everyone is watching the same channel at the same time they are. :eyes:

by Lynn Sweet. "Have you spoken with any living presidents..." about the transition. Almost set him up for a Nancy Reagan comment.

15. IT was a question during Obama's
presser that just ended. Lynn Sweet of one of the Chicago papers asked if Obama has spoken to any "living presidents" about his transition. Obama made reference to Nancy Reagan in saying that he would not be communicating with any dead presidents.

11. In the press conference Obama was asked if he had talked to any former Presidents for advice.
He answered , yes he had spoken to all the living former Presidents. Meaning,I think that he hadn't missed anyone because of course of course a President would have to be living for him to talk to him.

The he added, Yeah, I wasn't doing any Nancy Reagan stuff - no seances or anything like that.

There. Now you have the context.

20. why mention Nancy??
But why did he have to mention Nancy Reagan? The joke about not have seances and stuff like that works without mentioned Reagan. So why take a cheap shot? he has said he wants to reach across the isle, and I think that will be good. But he has to avoid these little pitfalls, because the media will catch on to all the little stupid things like this and run with them. I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it, but we will now get many hours of the 24/7 media analyzing this. If he can avoid the little things like this I think he will be much more effective.

ok, so you think making a joke like this is a smart move on his part?

Let say McCain had won, and made a Hillary joke in his first press conference, how would that go over?

But ok, I need to go back to Southern Baptist Church. uh, I'm from NJ. What a Southern baptist church has to do with this makes no sense to me.

And I didn't know that one had to agree with everybody 100% of the time to be part of this.

22. Eh, the first of many tantrums, I am sure. . .
I never get incensed with these sorts of lame jokes from politicians, of whatever stripe, especially when it comes during a press conference and the interviewee is obviously trying to connect with the press on an informal level, or make for a light moment. Sometimes jokes fall flat. Sometimes a legitimate comment seems untoward or isn't phrased in the best of manners. Most times, I just laugh at the commentator and move on. Even when it's a certifiable idiot like George W.

24. according to paranormal.about.com...
The Reagans and the Astrologer

Many regard the presidency of Ronald Reagan as one of the strongest of the 20th century. Yet it wasn't widely circulated until after he left office that the most powerful man on Earth and his influential wife, sought the advice of an astrologer on many occasions - even on matters of world importance.

Joan Quigley became Nancy Reagan's astrologer after the two met on "The Merv Griffin Show" in the 1970s and reportedly provided astrological advice during Reagan's bid for the Republican nomination in 1976. After reaching the White House, the Reagans sought Quigley's horoscope readings even more. Some of her alleged influences include:
She devised elaborate horoscope charts that showed dates and times - down to the last minute - that were both good and bad for the president. Nancy would provide Quigley with the president's itinerary, she would calculate the times most advantageous for success, and then Nancy would pass along the scheduling requirements to the White House staff.

She contributed to the timing of international summits, presidential announcements and even the flight schedule of Air Force One.
Shortly after Reagan was shot by John Wayne Hinckley, Nancy learned through Merv Griffin that Quigley had told him that Reagan's chart showed that this would be a bad day for him. She could have warned him that his life was in danger. Of course, this was after the fact of the shooting.
Nancy Reagan had special private phone lines installed in the White House and at Camp David expressly for talking to Quigley.
"I was the Teflon in what came to be known as the Teflon presidency," Quigley later wrote, taking credit for the timing of his actions that would deflect criticism.

Not really, but from what I picked up about his sense of humor, I'm really going to enjoy his Presidency!

Let's see, he compared himself to a mutt, referenced the reporter with the injured arm as the most serious injury at Grand Park and although I think he threw in the Nancy Reagan seance thing since he said he'd spoken to all those former Presidents who were alive; it was the perfect way to make it funny and explode some freeper heads at the same time.
