9. Land of the free, home of the brave?
Great shot! It reminds me of when they threw my mini bic lighter away at the airport and then handed me a book of matches with a picture of an American flag and the phrase "Let Freedom Ring" printed on it.

Irony is dead. Long live irony!

Police seek to install 12 cameras overlooking Brookline streets
By Neal Simpson/staff writer
Tue Nov 11, 2008, 06:27 PM EST

Brookline - By the time officers arrived on the scene, the woman was already on the curb beside the wrecked car.

No, she told officers when they approached her, she hadn’t been driving that night.

“She tried to use the excuse that she was the passenger in the car, that she was not the operator,” said Chief Daniel O’Leary. “When we came in in the morning, Scott Wilder viewed the videotape, and the videotape clearly showed there was one person in the car, and it was her.”

The case of the drunken driver is among a handful of stories Brookline police like to tell about their yearlong experiment with a pair of wireless cameras aimed at Coolidge Corner and River Road. In other cases, police have used the cameras to get images of a suspect in a sexual assault case, or to keep an eye on a fiery crash in Coolidge Corner.

Now Brookline Police are looking to expand their use of the cameras with a system overlooking 12 intersections along Beacon Street and Route 9. The $150,000 system comes courtesy of the Homeland Security Department, and will be connected to a network of cameras in eight other municipalities in greater Boston

FWIW... Brookline is easily one of the most Liberal communities in MA; birthplace of JFK and home of Mike Dukakis.

Obama carried the town by %80.7 v %17.4 for McCain.

38. One Nation Under Guard
My son was in first grade when that 9/11 event happened and people started draping themselves in flags and whatnot. The American Legion even visited the schools to teach all the proper flag etiquette, and the pledge of allegiance. My son, the quick study, mastered it immediately and recited it for us that night. When he got to that controversial line, "under God", he said,"One Nation Under Guard". We laughed and pointed out the error, but also informed him that his version was most appropriate and a healthy form of social criticism or political satire.

We are very proud our my son.
