Iranian acid attacker facing same assault
Published: Dec. 14, 2008 at 1:14 PM

TEHRAN, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A 27-year-old man who confessed to throwing acid into the eyes of a woman in Iran will receive the same fate as punishment, a court has ruled.

Tehran Provincial Court ruled the attacker, identified only as Majid, will be blinded with acid under Islamic law's eye-for-an-eye belief system, CNN reported Sunday.

The court's ruling came after Ameneh Bahrami demanded her attacker receive the same injuries he caused her when the alleged stalker attacked her after she jilted his advances.

Bahrami told the court the punishment was severe "so people like him would realize they do not have the right to throw acid in girls' faces."

Bahrami was disfigured and blinded during the November 2004 attack.

CNN said Majid, who can appeal the court's ruling, has said he would accept being blinded if he could undergo surgery to also have his eyes removed.

3. I'm of two minds about this.
Yes, it's barbaric, but so is throwing acid in girls' faces.

I don't know if I can get really upset about this...

4. I'm not
I am all for having punishment meet the level and circumstance of the offense.

That would have to be an effective deterrent.

6. Washington Post has her story with photos
TEHRAN -- Ameneh Bahrami once enjoyed photography and mountain vistas. Her work for a medical equipment company gave her financial independence. Several men had asked for her hand in marriage, but the hazel-eyed electrical technician had refused them all. "I wanted to get married, but only to the man I really loved," she said.>>>>>snip

I didn't think it was necessary to show the photo but the story is worth everyone's time

7. Thanks for the link. That's horrific. She gets a bucket full of acid
tossed on her, and he gets drops in the eyes? Doesn't seem quite fair.
