I got a big knot in my throat regarding Elizabeth Edwards.
I'm grateful for my families health---my wife and kids... and I can't imagine what the Edwards family is going through. It's weird--- I'm kind of the big gruff guy who doesn't get choked up about a lot of things... but this is getting to me. It's probably because I've seen Edwards speak many times, a couple in person, and I think the guy is a terrific human being who clearly and dearly loves his wife and family.

Cancer sucks... it really really sucks.

Here's hoping for the best.

1. I hope it's not what I think it is
Please no. I love the Edwards. They are the very best this country has to offer and they've been through so much already.

13. My Step Mom was treated for cancer
but it reoccurred a couple of years later. Her last few days at home were horrible.

19. that's what happened to my mom
breast cancer that was removed and surrounding areas treated, only to have the cancer reappear a couple of years later, brain, neck, back - it was a horrific time for her, so much suffering.

Prayers being sent out for Mrs. Edwards.

22. My mother had 4 recurrences
and a new primary while she was on chemo for her last recurrence.
She fought it for 15 years and was ready to fight some more but her body had had enough.

7. their press conference is at noon today.
Right now, it's all conjecture. It could be anything from a clean bill of health, to him dropping out because she isn't well. We aren't going to know until then. *fingers crossed and candle lit*

9. I agree
I had this OVERWHELMING feeling when my best friend "beat" her breast cancer. I had just got back from my holiday trip to Arizona and I had bought her some beautiful hot air balloon windchimes I found in New Mexico because she loved hot air balloons.
She told me that I should have waited until (next)Christmas to give her such a nice gift.
But I KNEW in my heart she wouldn't be there the next Christmas. I just knew it. She died on December 14.
I am lighting a candle for Elizabeth. She is a beautiful woman. The last time I saw her, she didn't have that "death mask" that my friend had, so I am extremely hopeful that this is just a bump in the road.

20. I'm sorry to hear about your best friend.
I lost my mother to breast cancer last year. She fought like a tiger for 5 years. If there's anything worse I haven't seen it.

11. I have really bad feelings about this since...
...his campaign will not comment. IMO, if things were OK ~~ they would say so. I don't think it will be good news and I think he will withdraw.

Oh, please ~~ make it be different.

12. I got the same feeling when I heard they would be speaking at noon.
I'm watching MSNBC and a reporter in Chapel Hill said that the Edwards will be making a statement in a "garden setting," and not in a "more ominous setting" like a medical center.

I have a bad feeling, but I'm hoping with all my heart this will be good news or at the very least a minor speedbump in her treatment.

Best wishes to her and the family.

14. I know.
I'm braced for bad news. I don't think they would call a press conference to give good medical news. My husband is also starting chemo again tomorrow. He's been battling cancer for 10 years now. My heart goes out to the Edwards family.

I hope everything is ok. I think Edwards is the best candidate out there because of his ideas. His wife is such a wonderful person too.

18. Nominated for two reasons.
First, because I share your concerns for the Edwards family. They seem like very good and decent people. I appreciate the thoughts you expressed in the OP.

Second, because the Edwards family is one that we can, in some very significant ways, relate to. Many of us have either had cancer; or have a family member dealing with cancer; deal as a family with some other serious illness; or have lost a family member through some illness or tragic accident.

In traditional Onondaga culture, one learns to take time each and every day to be thankful for those good things one has -- especially things like health and family members. I am thankful that the Edwards are part of the social fabric of our society. I hope for the best for them.

They're a wonderful couple and it seems so unfair given the things that have happened in their life together. I wish her all the best.

30. same here
Her devotion to her family and her bravery is so touching. She has amazing grace in face of an illness which would sent most people into a big ole attack of selfish 'me-me-me-me.'

Even asshole Chris Matthews was tearing up tonight on Hardball.

We wish our next Frist Lady the VERY BEST!

(First Lady, that is unless Al hops into the race, then I'm hoping she'll be our best second Lady in Waiting as the VP's wife.)
