Tony Snow: "...if you lie, it's against the law. You could go to jail."

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,260360,00.html

<snip>

"If you're talking to Congress, and you're talking to the House and Senate, as White House officials would be doing, if you lie, it's against the law. You could go to jail. So there's a legal prohibition. Furthermore, the president's going to tell each and every one of them: 'tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth,'" Snow told FOX News.

But some Democrats say if no transcript is allowed and it's not on camera, then there is no guarantee they will get the truth.

"We need to be able to get people on record, on transcript, under oath, transparent before the public," Sen. Dianne Feinstein told FOX News.

4. Um, I hate to bring this up, Tony, but...
What about the lies George told Congress about WMDs in Iraq?

Where are they?

What about the internal White House investigation into the outing of Valerie Plame that Bush said was being conducted?

We now know that was never ordered.

What about the lies about spying on Americans?

We now know that we were being spied on by multiple agencies in multiple ways.

And what about lying by omission? There is a legal precedent for that, and Bush is up to his eyeballs in those kinds of lies.

What about that, Tony?

5. They've gone from arrogant to pathetic
The President (a liar, drug addict, military deserter, corporate criminal and hero to conservatives in your neighborhood) is going to tell them to tell the truth. The same president who said he would get to the bottom of who leaked the identity of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame. What was that, three years ago?

Wow, tony there must be a shitload you criminals need to hide.

7. It's against the law to lie to Congress?
Even if you aren't under oath? Is that accurate? that doesn't sound right.

19. Yes, even if you're not under oath
Yes, lying to Congress is a crime, whether one is sworn or not. But, of course, if there's no recording of the session, no transcript, and no outside observers, it boils down to "he said, he said" and you can't prove anything.

Sort of like Tom DeLay yesterday, when an interviewer asked him about a passage in the book DeLay purportedly wrote. DeLay was asked if he stood by his characterization that Dick Armey was "drunk with power." DeLay denied that he would ever write such a thing; maybe he wrote "blinded by ambition" or some such. Then the interviewer picked up DeLay's book and read him the passage, and DeLay still denied writing it. The interviewer handed DeLay the book, and asked him to read it for himself, at which point DeLay said he couldn't because he hadn't brought his reading glasses.

If you want to know how it would play out to have a closed session without any transcript, DeLay just gave us the template. Sixteen Senators could swear that Rove had told them in closed session to go piss up a rope, and Rove would just smile and say he couldn't ever imagine himself saying such a thing. And there would be absolutely no recourse.

But under oath? With a reporter? And videotaped? Oh, talk about the same effect that sunlight has on a vampire! The White House has to avoid that at all costs.

14. Call It "Faith-Based Justice", Tony
The Good Lord shall striketh those down who hath wrought the wrath of God almighty.

Who needs courts? Who needs Congress?

With faith-based justice, it's all AUTOMATIC.

Right, Tony?

18. The Almighty Bush has spoken..
he will tell them to tell the truth, and that is that, no further discussion necessary, he's a man of his word. You know, just like he promised us that he would find out who leaked Valerie Plame's name to the press. Why are these Democrats so unreasonable?

20. Uh, wasn't there some memo issued by the White House right
after Bush took office? Something like "avoiding the appearance of impropriety"?

Refusing to tell the truth under oath, in the public eye ... appears improper, eh?
