Israel starts a war and Obama gets (even more) unpopular

That's what's outlines the current situation.
Israel goes to war and Obama is being criticized and people demand a statement, although he's not in power yet. He's a president-to-be, inheriting the most hopeless incredible mess your country has ever seen, and now he has another war on his hands. He have voted against war before and up and until the point where he was elected, he was extremely popular here, although he of course did not fit all. We have given up Bush, no one demands a statement from him, because we're utterly numb when Bush is concerned and wouldn't raise an eyebrow to anything he possibly could say, because he can say anything and get away with it. Bush and the Israeli govt. have a long tradition together in that strange threesome they formed with the Blair govt., in starting political aggression together (ie. war). Would Obama like another war on his hands, another tentative situation to handle right at the beginning of, and even before he starts, his presidency? Think about it. He's alreay got two wars, a stockmarket crash and a bad national reputation to fix. He has all that Bush has undone to fix. You elected him and he hasn't even started yet on the tasks you have elected him for, yet he seems more or less a lost cause to many. That ain't right.

I was so happy when you elected this guy, because he meant reform and in himself represented a change. And he also has a good personality, he can become a very special president. Let's not forget that he's not alone up there, many decent Democrats stand behind him and many are a part of the new administration. These are real people, non-extremists, who will do things otherwise than the mad people you've suffered for the last eight years. They seem to have more contact with the grass root than ever, and they will have the interests of the US in mind, and their cultural impact on the US society will be different, much more liberal and friendly to any subgroup as their general outlook is not to rule by fear and division. It should become safer to be a gay person under a Dem administration than under the Bush administration. It should be safer to be ANY person under a Dem administration, and if not you should complain. It should be safer to complain under a Dem administration too, but lastly: it will be much more easy to complain about a Dem administration, beacuse they inherit all the mess and can't fix it in one day. And actually has to answer to the people's expectations, which will be enormous, while Bush was the dictator and could do what he wanted for eight years. When you finally escape from Dracula's castle in the middle of the night and reach into the nearest village, you're not sure whether the villagers are vampires too even though they seem to be nice, because you are uncustomed to real people and are still waking up from a nightmare.

2. If he doesn't say anything, people complain. If he says something, people will complain.

So if he's going to get the same result, why expend the extra energy?

I'm content to let him focus on the transition and prepare for the coming maelstrom quietly. On Jan 21 he'll have to hit the ground running, and I trust that he'll do so. Until then this is still occurring on Bush's watch and the coup de grace of 8 years of inept domestic management and global bullying.
