The new President-elect says that he prefers to move forward rather than backward. If your brother and father were missing and your car and bicycle were stolen from the garage, would you won't to just forget about it and move forward? Or would you want to find out the truth?
The natural inclination is to forget about unpleasant things that don't affect us personally. But this Administration has affected all of us in the most unpleasant manner. They have illegally spied on millions of Americans and probably the President-elect himself? They have tortured prisoners in our name, against all the rules of the Geneva Convention, and renditioned them to other countries for "special" torture. They have us stuck in at least two wars and disrespected around the world. They have busted our economic system and even ask the poor and homeless to help bail them out. They have lied about everything, at least from the WMDs forward.
Now, the sneering criminal wants to take all of the evidence down to Texas, to the SMU library, and hide it or destroy it. You can bet it will not be open to public inspection for quite a while. To borrow an old phrase from the right-wingers, if they have nothing to hide, why not open it up for the public to examine?
There can be no charges unless the truth be known. At the moment, the truth is in the trunk of a black limo or in a locked U-Haul, heading for the plains of Texas. If Obama wants a second term, then he had better let Congress investigate all these charges. Perhaps it will need to be more low-key, or even without his public approval, but it must be done. The truth must be set free. We cannot go "forward" under these circumstances - regardless of the other humongous problems facing our country.
