oh man. another 5 people being laid off today from my job...
I'm fairly well insulated, but it doesn't make me feel any less ill.

The nature of my job is that I have to deal with every single one of the people here on a daily basis. all 130 of them. And as a result, good bad or indifferent, I get to know them all.

3 weeks ago, we let 4 people go. today it's 5. I feel ill.

just to be clear, I have no control, knowledge or power in who gets hired or fired. I just deal with the wreckage.

Various things that they use, store, need, etc are the things I have to clean up, reorganize and store when they leave.

man, I thought we were safe for at least 3 more months.

It's hitting here now. Austin, Texas.

We have been very lucky. We have had foreclosures but not to the level per capita as some area's of the nation has seen.

Things are catching up.

I don't know who yet these people are, I just know it will be 5.

So many faces and names run through my mind as to who it can be.

Of course there are some people more than others that I prefer, but in the end they are all people. People with bills, people with families, people with kids to feed. People. Hopes, dreams, hates and wants.

reason # 1,256,346 why I fucking hate moron*.

1. I understand that sick feeling. You hate to see anyone lose their
job. My husbands job is now talking across the board pay cuts to keep the company running. This after losing it all in michigan and moving here so he could have a job. I could have reached through the television this morning and grabbed the neck of that twit standing there arrogantly discussing his horrible presidency. This country has been run into the ground and unfortunately all the damage isn't even visible yet.

2. We're in San Antonio. My husband has been in the car business in this town for 15 yrs.
He is currently unemployed and dealerships around town are laying off salespeople. That has never happened before. It's bad here for the car business, people aren't buying cars.

3. I just talked with a contact at the Unemployment Security
We were talking about the hundreds, and sometimes thousands of people applying for the same three jobs listed in this area. She's not sure she will even keep her job. It's really bad out there.

4. My sister has to lay off 5 people this week.
She doesn't have a choice because her bosses say she has to let them go, along with telling her who must be let go. She's hating her job right now.

7. I was in the same boat last week...
I was in the same boat last week. I'm told well ahead of time who to let go, and precisely when to let them go.

I knew since Monday that we'd have to give the axe to a co-worker on Friday afternoon. I really hate that kind of knowledge...

5. I am one of the numbers
I am a college-educated, unemployed man in his forties. Mortgage, two kids < 12 y.o., a rusty car, and a wife that is just about as exhausted as my Unemployment benefits. It is increasingly hard to see the disappointment in her eyes.

January starts month number eleven, & each has been tougher than the previous one. It's been about 17 years since I was last beating the pavement, so I didn't really understand much about the new realities of applying, interviewing, etc. (I expected the process would be easier and faster with electronic communication). So the ~300 applications I have sent (nationwide) within my field of expertise (and outside of it) has yielded be exactly TWO interviews, ZERO offers (and fewer than a dozen polite rejection notices). I cannot think of anything good about this situation & I wouldn't wish it on Rush Limbaugh. It is bad, bad, bad, and getting worse.

If you and your family are still solvent, be grateful and try to find a kind word for those you interact with.

If you are in my boat, get someone to hide the sharp objects and ammo. And let's say Good Riddance to a real P.O.S. on Jan 20th.

6. I'd wish it on Rush, but he wouldn't suffer. He's made millions/per yr for spewing hatred and
lies. to you and your wife and I hope something breaks for you soon. From one unemployed family to another.

8. Funny you should say that................
He just said that he couldn't be fired (I guess he owns his radio program), but was giving employment advice to his listeners.

11. Pretty confident, isn't he? I'll bet he really gives a rat's ass about his listeners, too.
Probably laughs at them, all the way to the bank, for believing his bull crap.

13. Who knows, but he is an arrogant jerk.
He was telling his audience to think of what they love and to try to market it into a skill, that in the long run they would be much happier and successful if they worked in a field that they liked. It's advice I've heard before from other people, nothing new.
