What are you doing for Inauguration Day?
In Germany my friend and I will drape a US flag over our balcony rail for German neighborhood view, placing three smaller flags, American, German, and EU flags, in a tulip pot, also in pubic view. We will turn on our still-hanging Christmas lights on FLASH mode and watch the inauguration drinking Dom Perignon and burning a snowman candle. My friend says the candleburning will symbolize the melting of prior Frosty relations between the Bushies and the EU (not to mention rest of the world), while to me it will symbolize the ridding the WH and country of its drug-addled "snow"man so Americans can move forward toward a clearer thinking, more honest and open, civilized government.

6. I'll burn a rubber tire right behind the trailer.
And I'll use the fire to boil some water for my evening's feast of boiled goat head with field carrots. Everyone in the park will wonder why I'm celebrating. They aren't too sure what a President is, because they didn't think they had one for eight years.

Seriously, does this question even matter?

...which is not to say I didn't enjoy your response.

Sipping vinegar and hyssop, nibbling on bitter herbs and mourning for the smoking crater that bu$hler made of my country.

Then, I will get down on my heathen knees and petition the Goddess that President Obama's path be made smooth and level as he goes about undoing the damage that bu$h, his enablers in Congre$$, the Alleged News Media, bloodthirsty corporations and just under half of the Murkin Public fucking WANTED him to do!

As a nation, we have just barely escaped being Too Stupid To Live.

34. Can you even get into town?
Friday, they blocked my commute route while I was at work. So I asked the cop how to get around. He got all pissy because I interrupted him as he was busy sociallizing. Then over on the Virginia side, they had erected a fence blocking the way.

I'm going to skip today's big show and our office is closed Tuesday, being located in the thick of it.

10. Smudging the USA! A national Smudging Ceremony.
Smudging is the process of employing scent in rites of purification,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smudge_stick

Smudging at the end of the the bu$h administration.

Burn a little sweet grass, sage or cedar needles to get rid of the era of bu$h. Any incense will also work. Grab some lavender from your garden. Light it an wave it slowly through the air.

Rid our country of the bad vibes and cleanse the way for the Hope and Healing that Obama will bring.

All four corners and points in between.

Any time from now to the the Swearing in Ceremony. Fan the smoke with your hand or a feather. Blowing on it with your own breath is not suggested.

It will spread! Do your house, your yard, a park.

People get ready, there's a change a comin'

Wooo Hooo!

16. The sinking feeling is starting to ease up a bit...
Edited on Sun Jan-18-09 08:48 AM by Hubert Flottz
Real accountability would be a dream come true. Rebuilding trust and respect around the world will be nothing but another broken American dream, without accountability. Bush and Dick didn't just torture logic and the world expects some accountability. Think of all the shattered hearts and minds that resulted from the lies the neocons told. Think of the shattered American troops that were lied to and put into harm's way for no real reason other than the PNAC's stupid greed driven ideas of dominating the middle east and stealing the natural resources over there. The right wingers who are always going around calling American women "Baby Killers" need to take a long hard look at some of the kids who have been murdered in Iraq.

Accountability...without it we are not a "nation of laws," we are a nation of outlaws.

How exactly does the Bush Doctrine, differ from Hitler's Doctrine in 1939 when he invaded Poland?

Sounds like Claire McCaskill don't trust Gates and his cronies anymore than I trust them.

Edit...BTW, you might want to listen to this tune sometime Tuesday...

Edited on Sun Jan-18-09 11:48 AM by lebkuchen
and I hope Obama takes note:

"I believe when wrongdoing occurs without accountability, it sends the wrong message. This is a message that has endured for all too long in varying areas of contracting, and it must be stopped. I have been encouraged to date by your personal efforts to change this culture, and I look forward to our providing attention to this specific matter."

I was hoping to see the Dems come out and start kicking ass, and I believe McCaskill is doing that.

I'll include the URL for followup.

Thanks for the song. I'll play it again on The Date.

I'm a long time Government Mule fan...I love how Warren Haynes tears into Bush at about the five minute mark on that video.

I hope Senator McCaskill makes Gates dig into all the no bid contracts given to Cheney's company and the missing 9 billion dollars in Iraq too.

14. Just Take In The History...
Last night I drove around Grant Park where President Obama gave his victory speech...and got goosebumps. I have no clue on how I will feel on Tuesday other than both proud and relieved.

I still remember JFK's inauguation and have watched almost every one ever since. The best were Carter's (walking down Pennsylvania Ave.) and Clinton (no biases here...LOL)...where I felt there was a change coming and a good one. It sure beats both the anger and dread I felt in 2001 knowing this country would be going to hell...and in retrospect, I vastly underestimated the damage the boooosh regime could do.

This is definitely a day just to watch and soak it all in...which is what I expect to do.

25. Watching the inauguration in my classroom with my students
I will be using my new smart board to project it from the internet onto the big screen. I am having a party. I made little treat bags for the kids with candy, buttons, stickers, pencils, and the usual kid party bag stuff. I also have some games, word searches, puzzles and an essay for them to write. It should be a fun day and I am really looking forward to it. I can't take the day off because it is the day after a holiday.

I wanted to watch the inauguration with my local county party at their event but when I realized I would have to go to school that day, I planned a party. And I am looking forward to it.

Here is the treat bag each of my kids will get:

30. Yes about half my kids are African American
The rest are Hispanic. They were just thrilled when Obama was elected.

I just heard the CNN reporter tell Obama that 18 months ago an African American kid would have named Michael Jordan as his role model but today it would be Barack Obama. That put a tear in my eye. It is so true. And as a teacher who has worked with African American kids for nearly 30 years I wanted to shout "it's about time!"
