1. Give the guy a break
He's never had to speak before such a huge crowd.

I know I'd be damned nervous trying to administer an oath of office to a crowd larger than most cities in America.

5. Snap out of it.
He's the fucking CHIEF JUSTICE of the US Supreme Court.

I should think he might have rehearsed his ONE LINE?

Notice that Justice Stevens, who is almost 90 years old, did a perfect job of swearing in Vice President Biden?

Yeah. Right.

Asshole.

2. Wasn't that unforgivable?
Jesus, he had one line to deliver, and you think, maybe, he might have rehearsed it?

Everything Obama has done up to that moment had been impeccable, careful, thoughtful, considered, and just right, and this dwarf Republican tool fucks it up.

I just about choked.

The only comfort I'm taking is that he's now the butt of jokes and always will be.

3. Apparently he hadn't memorized it.
Too bad he didn't have a copy in front of him. Obama handled it graciously.

4. Over React Much?
Sweet Baby J, he messed up a big public moment. It sucks, but as a person who does a lot of public speaking, it happens.

9. no
He fuked up the most important words in history, he should have had them written below him
there is NO excuse, it was almost like he did that on purpose
he put several words out of sentence that had Obama wondering what the fuk was up

10. I am disappointed that his screw-up marred that part of the ceremony
I know the type who screw up simple things like this. They have an inflated sense of their own importance and abilities. Roberts might have practiced the oath a little bit over the past couple days, but it never crossed his mind that he might be nervous or would screw it up. He wasn't nervous at all in the days leading up to it. He's Chief Justice!

But when the time came, he found he was nervous. And he found that he couldn't quite remember the oath.

And this is the guy who decides matters on the highest court of our country.

:(

11. What is important is that Bush swore to uphold and defend the Constitution
hollow words given what we know now.

Bush did not honor his oath, and Roberts doesn't even know it.

and no matter how much you practiced and got it perfect, you stumbled over your words?

they both got a bit flustered, Roberts when Obama jumped a bit early and Obama when Roberts got it backwards

get a grip: folks get nervous when in front of a huge group.

I don't care if he fucks up one line. It happens to the best of speakers.

16. John Paul Stevens is 88 years old and he was flawless giving the oath to VP Biden
and the VP oath is even trickier than the presidential oath of office.

17. I guess I must have outrage fatigue.
Somehow, that moment just doesn't seem to matter in the enormity of today's events. Roberts will have to live with his inability to rise to the occasion and administer a rather simple pledge. And maybe it's a final reminder of yet another symbolic FAIL in Bush's personnel choices he made while in office.

screw up a simple duty, and he came through.

That's pretty funny. And true. It makes the screw-up kind of poetic, now that you've pointed that out.

25. That was how I felt about it
Given that Obama taught constitutional law, it's going to be a particularly excruciating memory for Roberts. Well, with luck he'll get a second chance in 4 years and he can try to get it right then. I'm not complaining, it means we got Smiling Obama for the oath-taking photos as opposed to Serious Obama.

21. Hell, they both screwed up...
Obama started repeating before he was supposed to, and Roberts omitted a word.

I would rather that we focus on more important issues.

Flame away...nothing will bring me down today. :hi:
