Oh yes...Michelle is such an "angry black woman", isn't she?
After watching the events of today, it amazes me now more than ever that anyone would consider Michelle to be this angry, militant, Black Panther-esque woman. Now I understand why Obama said that the attacks leveled against his wife were the hardest thing he had to deal with during the campaign. It makes ME angry to think about it.

She's gracious, classy, smart...everything a First Lady should be. How dare they attempt to smear her the way they did. Disgusting.

5. We have
two Harvard-trained lawyers in the White House tonight.

A young (45) friend of mine said he thought - although he only knew them from old films - that the Obamas were like the John F. Kennedys, and I proceeded to set him straight.

The Obamas, I told him, are about five hundred times MORE than all that John and Jackie were.

For openers, they came from nothing. They got their educations via scholarships and loans and hard work. Nothing was handed to them - not a trust fund anywhere.

They both went to Ivy League undergrad and professional schools. Jackie Kennedy dropped out of one of the Seven Sisters, as I recall, and maybe finished her degree at GW, but I'm not sure she finished. JFK was a Harvard boy - big surprise.

They both have worked in the real world, at complicated and meaningful jobs before Barack went into politics. Jackie worked for a time as a roving photographer for the society pages of a newspaper and Jack was - granted - a Navy WWII hero who never had a job before becoming a Congressman, a Senator, and then a President, the route that was intended for his older brother Joe, but became his destiny when Joe was killed.

Compare all those differences between the Kennedys and the Obamas and you see - and my young friend understood - that the couple we have tonight in the White House are superior people, just the kind of folks you want to have a beer with, but then you want to go to work with them, and we are the luckier for all of it.
