Chicago Alderman Arrested, Charged With DUI
cbs2chicago.com

CHICAGO (CBS) A Chicago alderman is speaking out Wednesday night about her arrest on drunken driving charges. Sharon Dixon said she will be vindicated in court, but police say they acted appropriately.

"Obviously I am embarrassed that this happened," Dixon said. "I apologize for any embarrassment or disappointment that this may have brought to my constituents or to the city of Chicago."

CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports that Alderman Dixon's been in office for just shy of two years and she's made headlines before. But now, she's been charged with not only drunken driving, but obstruction of traffic and driving without insurance as well. Dixon says none of it is true. "I'll give you those details at a later date, too," Dixon said.

But Chicago Police tell a different story. Officers say early Wednesday morning, the alderman tried to get around a roadblock near a fire scene in the 6900 block of Sheridan in Rogers Park. Officers charge Dixon demanded they move their squad car. During the confrontation, police say they smelled alcohol on her breath, gave her a field sobriety test, which she failed, and then arrested her.
