Checking in for all who attended all the major historical events
Edited on Thu Jan-22-09 03:12 PM by wilt the stilt
I am lucky enough to be one of the people who attended 4 of the major political/social events of the past 45 years.

I went to Woodstock(400,000), the first March on Washington 11/2/69 (500,000), the second March on Washington spring 71 (1,000,000) and the inauguration(with my 18 year old daughter.(2,000,000).
One of my best friends attended the First 3 and I wish he had attended the last one as we would have completed the journey together

1. Wow. I am in awe of your memories.
My marches in Washington have only spanned the last 10 years...a couple of peace marches and women's rights.
I think you have set a marvelous example for your daughter. She must be very proud of you.

3. I attended the March on Washington August 1963, saw Dr. King speak
Same month, August 17, 1963, I attended the Joan Baez concert at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium where she introduced Bob Dylan. Many in the audience booed him.

Several anti Vietnam War marches in D.C. during the 1960s including the one where they tried to get into the Pentagon.

4. very cool on the Dr. King meeting
It's funny, I have a faint memory of a protest gathering around the Washington monument in or around July/August 1963. I was vacationing with my parents in the summer of '63 and there was a protest going on. We cared more about discovering McDonald's

5. I was 16 - you must have been a lot younger!
Btw, no actual meeting with MLK. I just went to the march with a high school friend. Took the bus from NYC to D.C. We were just two in the giant crowd.

:hi:
