My father just called to tell me that he is registering as a Democrat

At eighty two years old and a life long republican he went to the town hall and changed his registration.

Why? He said that the moment John McCain stood up and said that the Stimulus bill would destroy America his mind changed. He called it a meta noya. He said that the country has to get behind our President and that what the republicans are doing is disgraceful.

My dad, a lifelong Republican also, died in August at the age of 81. He was also very unhappy with Bush and the Republicans, but hadn't quite gotten to the point of changing his registration yet.

It takes a lot to get older guys to change their minds.

He was always registered as a Democrat but hadn't voted for one since Adlai Stevenson. He did love the illusion of tax cuts.

When he saw the RNC using a bunch of liars to attack a fellow combat veteran, that was it for him. His last vote in a national election was for Kerry.

No matter what does it, all the people with functioning intelligence are leaving the GOP. All they'll have left in another couple of years is the Palin wing of the party: poor, bigoted and ignorant. The money will have fled to the Libertarians.

One of my earliest memories -- me, hanging onto Mom's skirt hem as she goes door to door for Eisenhower. She's 89, a lifelong Republican, and in November for the first time in her life voted for the Democratic candidate for President. Yep, I cried.

22. My son-in-law's parents said that Sarah Palin was the last straw....

However, my next door neighbor still thinks President Obama is a Muslim. Even that has its mitigation, though- -we found out from an Obama volunteer walking the precinct that SOMEone in that house is registered Democratic. :rofl:

I watched that Elkhart town hall meeting last night and saw Obama work the room like a master, bringing most of those people right along on his economic package. That town didn't vote for him, either.

Confront him on it, because the same people saying Obama is a Muslim are the same ones who were trying to portray him as a radical Christian. If your neighbor thinks Obama is a Muslim, they have the radical Christian shit running through their minds too, because they've swallowed all the propaganda.

Pin your neighbor down, and tell them they can't have it both ways.... Either their claim is that he is a Muslim or a radical Christian, and demand to know which is it. I've done it several times. It's really funny to see the idiots have a short circuit and look completely dumbfounded, because they cannot justify both at the same time.

30. Nah. I get along with J by not talking politics or religion. Hubby set him straight, though...

... as they are sociable together. J's a good neighbor--he's just a fundamentalist and a conservative who hasn't figured out yet that the Repubs have betrayed him. He owns and manages some apartment buildings that he inherited from his dad, and he struggles with health issues. He fears that he will lose what he has, and the RW has told him that with Obama in the White House, he will.
