The Power of Populism! This is AWESOME!!
Congressional members of the banking committee reading messages from their constituents to the Wall Street bankers.

Makes you see that contacting your rep really DOES matter!!

"How dare you?"

"Aren't bonuses to reward productivity, not failure?"

"One executive bonus could build one school."

Lots more great comments.

3. 18 billion in executive bonuses
...could also build at least a half a dozen Ivy League schools.

4. What $18 bil could buy for the whole state of Connecticut- and then some:
Edited on Tue Feb-17-09 02:03 AM by chill_wind
5,648,125 People with Health Care for One Year OR

21,106,879 Homes with Renewable Electricity for One Year OR

337,266 Public Safety Officers for One year OR

228,813 Music and Arts Teachers for One Year OR

2,044,389 Scholarships for University Students for One Year OR

81,876 Affordable Housing Units OR

6,563,432 Children with Health Care for One Year OR

2,373,012 Head Start Places for Children for One Year OR

235,999 Elementary School Teachers for One Year

Now, if only the same American populace could become just as enraged at the last 7 years' and ongoing cost of Bush's and Congress's illegal war and never ending military spending, that also helped to utterly bankrupt this country the last eight years.

$656 Billion and thousands upon thousands dead for an immoral, murderous pack of lies. What did it take for us to get angry about our empty wallets? Not that. Ripping us off and keeping that industry going was okay for as as long as we had our nice middle and upper class houses to live in and the gas prices didn't pinch too much.

5. It blows my mind that the American people are not outraged over the cost of this war
They get upset about this bailout bill but not about the war.

6. The 2004 election shouldn't have even been even remotely close enough to steal.
Not even remotely. Bush blew through the Clinton surplus inside his first year. We've been in an economic death spiral ever since. But America really, really, really should have had George Bush figured out after his first four.
