Politico: dem approval more than doubles in a month
Edited on Tue Feb-17-09 01:40 PM by Enrique
edit: Politico has posted a correction: NOTE: We originally misinterpreted the data, believing the Democrat approval number referred to voter approval "of" Democratic members/Senators -- instead of what the data reflects, approval of Congress "by" registered Democrats. We regret the error and thank readers who pointed it out.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/0209/Congressional_Dem_approval_more_than_doubles.html

Gallup today reports that the approval rating for Congressional Dems more than doubled in a single month -- from 18 percent in January to 43 percent this month, probably on the strength of their push to pass the stimulus and other big-ticket legislation like childrens health insurance.

Over the same period, the GOP House and Senate approval slipped from 23 to 19 percent.

Overall, Congressional job approval leapt from 19 to 31 percent from January to February, the third-largest increase since '01.

3. Yeah, the M$M really hates it when that happens.
You know, when the American public doesn't actually think the way the M$M tells them they should think.

Sucks for them when that happens. :(

6. PLEASE find a source other than Politico.
They are NOT a serious news organization. They are a right wing subversive operation.

10. They'll never catch on - they just do what the media does...
Don't the DU gods have a ban on certain "news sources"? I suspect getting drudgico added to their list is the only way there'll be any success with this.

11. Here you go:

and The Plum Line - Greg Sargent's blog
http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/stimulus-package/poll-people-starting-to-like-congress/

Poll: People Starting To Like Congress!

Some very interesting numbers in the new Gallup poll (click on the image to enlarge):

Overall approval of Congress has risen to 31%, its highest point in two years. It has jumped a surprising 12 points in the past month. Since the stimulus package is the thing most identified with Congress, it’s hard not to see these numbers as reflecting growing approval for the stim bill.

These numbers also should make one question whether the GOP Congressional leadership’s strategy is working. The GOP’s primary message in recent days has been that the Dem Congressional leadership is betraying President Obama’s calls for bipartisanship, is mucking up the workings of Congress with partisanship as usual and is foisting a pork-stuffed bill on the American people.

But now that the stim bill has passed, reflecting an unusually large level of harmony between the new Democratic President and the Democratic Congressional leadership, many more people are saying they like what Congress is doing.

Of course, the GOP strategy is heavily invested in the idea that over time, the stim package will be seen as a failure by the American people, which is to say that the GOP strategy is a long-term one.

20. I see "public warms up to Congress"
which is what I'm saying, that's what most of the headlines say. Politico on the other hand puts the dems in the headline.

8. Direct link to Gallup for those who find politico...well, whatever you call it.
Congress Approval Rating Jumps

PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup's latest congressional job approval rating, from a Feb. 9-12 poll, shows a sharp 12 percentage-point increase from last month, rising from 19% to 31%. While still quite negative on an absolute basis, this is the best rating for Congress in nearly two years.

<snip>

Democrats' average approval ratings of Congress more than doubled from January (18%) to February (43%). Independents show a smaller increase, from 17% to 29%, while Republicans are now less likely to approve of Congress than they were in January.

19. While this is undeniably GREAT news...
Edited on Tue Feb-17-09 01:36 PM by Robbie88
isn't the original politico report somewhat misleading, because if I am reading this graph correctly, the increase from 18% to 43% is for Democrats' approval of Congress rather than a representation of the approval of Democratic Congresspersons, right? Correct me if I'm mistaken.

Still, an increase in approval from 19% to 31% is one hell of a jump, and hopefully this is a sign that the Republicans' refusal to cooperate with President Obama will come back and bite them in the ass big time in 2010...

22. yes they corrected it
they blew it. Interestingly, they blew it in the dems' favor.

NOTE: We originally misinterpreted the data, believing the Democrat approval number referred to voter approval "of" Democratic members/Senators -- instead of what the data reflects, approval of Congress "by" registered Democrats. We regret the error and thank readers who pointed it out.

24. OK, good...I was worried about an onslaught of right-wingers using this
as an example of that so-called "liberal bias" that we all know is just so rampant in our mainstream media. I share your surprise though, I never thought I'd see the day when politico would make an error that actually made the Dems look better...
