She's so much just herself, and comfortable with it. She's genuinely happy for her husband, but you don't get those... well, you said it right, Stepford wife looks.

She's confident in who she is, on her own...

4. I never minded Laura. She might have mangled the English language

almost as much as her husband did, but she had stellar taste in literature and didn't mind pissing off the fundies with some of it.

I know a lot of very nice women who are married to absolutely awful men. I have no idea what got them together in the first place or what keeps them there, it's a total mystery to me, but I just realize it's none of my business.

The First Lady is always a lightning rod for criticism of everything she says, does, or wears. She has a job to do in the White House and is expected to do it without compensation, never reacting to unfair criticism.

Mrs. Obama is a little more my taste, too, but I would have no problem giving Mrs. Bush a chance should I ever meet her face to face.

human to ever set foot in Washington.

11. I totally agree. Laura always seems so very Stepford, so phonily

sweet. She has a dud personality, whereas Michelle is so alive and vital. Laura could be attractive, but Laura always dresses like a matron, no flair or style. She was probably reasonably cultured and refined when she married W, but all those years of drink and disgust must have soured her into the prune she has become. Micheele appears to be the kind of woman no man will control; I'd say Obama knows it and loves her for it. She is her own woman. And a very impressive one at that...a Princeton grad.
