Huckabee rips Steele on abortion
@ 1:22 pm by Jeremy P. Jacobs

On days like today, I doubt Michael Steele is enjoying his new gig as RNC chair. After having to backtrack on his recent interview with GQ, the conservatives are piling on his somewhat dithering remarks on abortion.

The latest is former Arkansas governor and 2008 presidential contender Mike Huckabee (R), who slammed Steele in the following statement Thurday afternoon.

Comments attributed to Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele are very troubling and despite his clarification today the party stands to lose many of its members and a great deal of its support in the trenches of grassroots politics. Since 1980, our party has been steadfast and principled in believing in the dignity and worth of every human life. We have supported a Constitutional amendment to protect life and the party has taken the position that no one individual has the supreme right to own another person in totality including the right to take that life.

Not too bad so far, right? Here comes the kicker:

For Chairman Steele to even infer that taking a life is totally left up to the individual is not only a reversal of Republican policy and principle, but it's a violation of the most basic of human rights–the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. His statement today helps, but doesn't explain why he would ever say what he did in the first place.

Ouch.

3. I'm almost tempted to feel sorry for Steele.

But only ALMOST. I think this boot-licking asshole deserves everything he gets from his "friends". I've hated this POS for quite a while, going back to his phoney Oreo throwing claim. I hope they use his sorry ass up and throw him aside like a used Kleenex. I also would mind seeing a similar fate befall the likes of Ron Christie, Larry Elders and all the other black conservatives/repugs.

4. HE's another one so lacking in principle he will say exactly
anything to get himself out of a pickle. I have no use for people like this regardless of party.

5. Michael Steele is either a Democratic plant, or he is trying to sandbag his own stint at the RNC.
Nothing else makes any sense. This dude knows the GOP script, and yet he seems to be going extemporaneous. On purpose. This exchange from the GQ article sealed it for me:

Q: Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion?

STEELE: Yeah. I mean, again, I think that’s an individual choice.

Q: You do?

STEELE: Yeah. Absolutely.

Steele is given a chance to clarify his stance on abortion, and he does, even though his stance is the antithesis of the party's platform.

6. I think he's just dumb. He has a long history of opening his mouth,
inserting his foot, then trying to regurgitate said foot.

8. I know he's dumb, but this goes beyond that. I really think he wants out.
On occasion, even the terminally stupid know when they are not wanted.

7. Now the GOP will get rid of Steele and put Huckabee in as their "leader".

9. "that no one individual has the supreme right to own another person in totality"
"no one individual"

But a group of men can tell women what to do with their body...

"right to own another person in totality"

but that group can own parts of a person...for example, a woman's womb

Meh. Fuck'em all.

I'm definitely enjoying the GOP's auto-cannibalism...

11. I thought some dems were tough on Dean early on but it's nothing like the pile on Steele is getting.
