Poll question: Let's Get This Straight
Edited on Wed Mar-18-09 10:05 PM by Mike 03
I'm sorry, but I'm amazed by how little responsibility some people here are willing to take for anything and how much they want to throw in President Obama's lap.

This is an amazing President we have. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity we have to have a moral, brilliant human being lead us, and the posts I'm seeing here are so trivial, selfish and greedy that it horrifies me.

"Save me... I was a dumbshit and you are a horrible president unless you save me personally, and I am unwilling to sacrifice anything...."

We don't want President Obama: Some of us want Houdini

Based on some of the posts I've read here on DU, President Obama is supposed to:

So far, my only complaints against Obama are his views on gay marriage, single payer health care, and the war on drugs; but I knew he wasn't DK when I voted for him.

edit to remove the "nt" from my subject line, force of habit I suppose. I put a "st" in its place for, "some text".

10. Obama has already done that several times during his campaign.
Remember how everything they threw at him bounced off and hit them in the face?

12. I expect him not to regularly capitulate to right wing idiots.
Edited on Thu Mar-19-09 04:00 AM by readmoreoften
I expect him to close down CIA black sites, not make public speeches against them and backroom deals to keep them open.
I expect him to stop appointing bankster insiders to fix the economy and regulate the banksters.
I expect him to not do harmful nonsense, like creating government offices for faith-based funding that will outlast him and supporting merit-pay.
I expect him to appoint qualified people to positions of power in the DOE, not his Harvard basketball buddies with business degrees who have destroyed entire public school systems.
I expect him to stop the rightwing jingoistic bullshit about Afghanistan and Pakistan.
I expect him to stop protecting Bush and Cheney. Releasing a few memos as a cover to hide thousands of others is not transparency.

Actually, I don't expect much from him. These are things I wish to god he'd stop doing. Even the things he seems to do in the name of "change" seem to be PR moves to cover up the status quo and right wing bullshit.

If you run on a campaign of Change and then appoint a bunch of Washington insiders, DLC shitheads, and banksters, you're bound to get criticism and it's criticism well-deserved.

I am not obliged to have faith in a politician. That's not my job as a citizen in a democracy. I don't expect him to fix anything. I don't blame him for a single thing the Clinton and Bush administration has done. He is only accountable for what he does. He's also accountable for what he doesn't do. I don't think that's to much to ask.

13. Policy level decisions can help all of that...
By giving people the means to recover from their mistakes. People can't right now because we're all being squeezed. There's no room for error, and people are paying tenfold for their mistakes. Credit card companies are raising rates, healthcare's up again, utilities up, pharmaceuticals waaaaay up, billing cycles are being shortened, late fees going up.

All of these instruments are currently preying on our most vulnerable citizens at a time when they can least afford it. We should be protecting them from devastation, prolonged sickness, inability to care for their children or themselves. They need controls on how they deliver their "penalties" to people who made bad decisions and now can't make ends meet.

The people that truly got us into this mess - who've reaped a majority of the benefits - need to make a majority of the sacrifices. Even if it cuts into their profit margins.
