And if certain Democrats appear to be all tangled up in corruption and piracy, I have no problem whatsoever with showing them the door. I've always voted Democratic, always will, but I won't coddle or support a crook.

1. One was just sentenced here in NM
and he's been a stink in the nose of Democrats for the nearly two decades I've been here. He finally got clumsy enough to get caught and he's on his way to jail.

The whole party is breathing a sigh of relief.

2. Exactly. Some Dems prefer to believe that BushInc happened in a vacuum. Wrong. BushInc grew in power
over the last few decades because some powerful Dems helped them and more importantly PROTECTED THEM when a few brave, honest Dems risked their lives and careers to expose their criminal operations.

6. I agree
It's like America blaming China or Nazi Germany for human rights violations, while we let torturers, war criminals and people who abuse and misuse the power that we trusted them with, go scott free in our own country. If we democrats don't hold our own people accountable, then we don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to holding the GOP to account for their dirty and or, even criminal deeds.

17. Corruption is pervasive, yes, and even some true-blue progressives are up to no good in some ways
That means we need to act like a python. Squeeze the most corrupt out of the system first, and keep going till we clean out enough garbage to get to the point where we have functioning representative government. I'm very excited about the Accountability Project, because its one practical way to hold Democrats' feet to the fire. Glen Greenwald and Jane Hamsher are two diamonds among citizen-activists.

I strongly disagree with the attitude that mouth breathes "It's a Democrat-MUST SUPPORT DEMOCRAT". I'm an American before any party affiliations, and I'd rather have good honest government run by Republicans (*giggle*... good luck to me finding enough good honest Republicans in this country to make up such a government, but hey, the principle remains true) than corrupt government run by Democrats or any other party I might identify with.

Locally, I associate myself with the VT Progressive Party, and hell yes, I have voted for Democrats over Progressives who I knew didn't belong in office. Even our small "idealistic" left of center party has a loser or two who is ethically compromised, massively unqualified, or both. Though, as a former party official, I could not fly my flag very high for the Dems I've supported over Progs, nor of course could I divulge any inside political information I might have had to the Dems. I would not have expected any of the Dem party officials who've quietly supported specific Progs over their own ethically challenged candidates to betray their party over the wrongdoing of a particular Democratic candidate. Party loyalty is a very good thing, and it binds one especially tightly if one has held party office, but party loyalty is not interchangeable with blind support for whatever trash comes wrapped in a party label.

We'll never be free entirely of egomaniacs and slimeballs and prostitutes to the highest bidder in government. Power is to sociopaths what magnets are to iron filings. But it is not beyond the ability of an alert public to make it very hard for them. And right now, the public is very much awake.
