Dodd back pedals, admits to role in AIG loophole
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/19/aig.bonuses.congress/index.html

Should he resign for siding with the failure industry against his constituents?

1. Should the majority of congress who voted for the bailout resign?
The unspoken reason that Dodd removed the provisions is because the Republicans would have voted no on the bailout, further driving the economy into the toilet.

2. That excuse seems a trifle humorous now.
The Republicans relinquish an opportunity to loot the Treasury? I think not.

3. Blaming Dodd and the Obama administration is a trifle humorous.
Claiming to be upset about AIG bonuses while blaming Dodd and the Obama administration is a trifle humorous.

Bailing out AIG to prevent further systemic failure.

Fine by me.

21. Legislating to avoid systemic failure.
Do you really believe that Dodd and Obama WANTED to award AIG execs bonuses at the expense of the American people?

28. But, he also was the one who
put the clause in in the first place - to prevent AIG from getting these big bonuses. So, he had good intentions, but backed down when pressure was brought to bear.

44. Good luck with that.
Dodd is powerful & influential for his state, besides which, he really has had some shining moments. Like fighting against the surveillance bill, trying to restore habeas corpus, & creating many conumer protection measures. I'd still vote for him.

... we need to stop making it easy for the GOP.

We need to leave bills alone and force the GOP to make changes instead of assuming what it is they won't agree to.

But to clarify, his "siding with the failure industry" , wasn't only against his constituents, this affects all Americans!

Unfortunately we don't all get to vote for the good senator, so it's now up to his constituents to let him how they feel.

or be stripped of his committee assignments. It is time for us to start holding politicians ACCOUNTABLE for their actions. If I or you had fucked up like Dodd did, we'd be fired - or in jail.

DODD DOES NOT DESERVE A PASS JUST BECAUSE HE IS A POLITICIAN.
