The following are personal opinions and should not be taken as gospel.
During weekdays, many people are working and don't have time to read long posts. Further, many DUers may be junior or senior high schoolers who are most likely to read weekday, midday posts. My suggestion is to keep posts during these times short and to the point.
Late night posts tend to be more lengthy, thoughtful, and are often written by those recovering from "happy hour." If you post something with in-depth thought during late night hours, you are likely to get either some really interesting replies, or some drunken rant.
Weekends are perhaps the best time for philosophical posts. Those who are not watching the morning propaganda "news" shows or some athletes doing what they do, are most likely to take the time to think about your post and agree/disagree with the same thoughtfulness you put into your post. (Then again, you can still get some drunken rants.)
These are not "laws handed down from on high," but merely my personal opinions.
Have fun posting and don't be disappointed when what you consider to be "a piece of brilliance" dissapears with zero responses. Put another way, don't invest your ego in other DUer's opinions or lack of them.
(On edit: There are also many retirees who will post anytime. Time zones can also make a difference.)
