Obama Insults Handicapped People On Tonight's Leno
It hasn't aired yet, but that's what "they're" saying. He talks about the White House bowling alley and how he sucks at bowling and then says "like the special olympics".

Now I have to stay up and watch it.

16. Huh? Sorry...
I just commented on this because I was a mod in LBN and that was what we had to do a lot, consolidate dupes. But mainly I was using it as a chance to say "hi," and was referring to the fact that you used to have the same avatar as mine... Sorry.:hide:

25. That's one of my biggest pet peeves on DU
NOBODY seems to check to see if something's already posted. It makes it all that much harder to find good threads because there's multiple threads on the exact same thing. It can be 24 hours later and still some fool will post something that has been posted 25 times already. :banghead:

of integrity. Consider the source.

I expect we'll see some feigned outrage, but Limbaugh imitating a man with Parkinson's Disease should shut em up right quick. ;)

That's a big gaffe. I usually watch Letterman, but now have an additional reason to turn on Leno tonight... :-(

4. While I regret he said this
and by now, I am sure that he does too, I cannot in my wildest dreams imagine him intentionally insulting "handicapped people".
If he was a republican, his enforcers would just say he misspoke and then DARE you to keep talking about it.

14. I agree.
He was actually trying to be self-deprecating, belittling his own efforts at bowling, and he just misspoke. But it was a big gaffe, which he must certainly regret now. I was wondering if he might have been a little nervous, but then dismissed the thought... :silly:

And I also agree with you about the Republicans. They say something, then deny saying it, even though the damn thing was captured on camera and it's already been all over the news... :eyes:

6. As far as I know the Special Olympics is for persons with a developmental
disability - not all persons with handicaps. As the mother of a daughter with a severe developmental disability I am going to forgive him. Everyone makes mistakes and I do not think he was insulting them - he was saying that he was in their league when it comes to bowling.

This man does so much for my daughter by just being the President of the United States that I can forgive him a lot before I start bitching.

9. Exactly. He was saying he needs special accommodations when it comes
to bowling.

Let's be honest, no one in the Special Olympics is going to compete with Michael Phelps.

of those posting about some words that I am sure President Obama wishes he could reconsider.

18. That is because I am VERY worried about my family and my nation
and what President Obama does is much more important than what took place tonight. I just want him to continue to work to help my daughter and those like her.

22. After having seen the actual event, I realize that there was absolutely nothing
in what was said that could be construed as an insult to anyone.

I believe the President was reacting to Leno's encouragement of of his bowling, and giving him some credit for trying even though he may not have had the best score.

32. He wasn't intentionally insulting, but he was implying that we should laugh at Special Olympians
Otherwise, why say it like that on The Tonight Show of all places?

It was a very stupid thing to say. One of the worst things I've ever heard come out of his mouth.

He obviously didn't consciously mean to insult them, but his statement does speak for itself.

And that's coming from the brother of a quadriplegic. I will forgive him too, but I'm not going to try and defend him on it either.

19. People who go around mortally wounded by every wisecrack
should do us all a favor and just self destruct from the strain. Or drink themselves to oblivion. Or become hermits.

No matter what comes out of his mouth, there are people whose profession it is to be outraged by it.
