A federal judge on Thursday blocked a federal rule allowing people to carry concealed, loaded guns in national parks and wildlife refuges.

The decision by U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly halts a change in regulations issued in the waning days of the Bush administration and orders further review. She set an April 20 deadline for the Interior Department to review the rule and indicate its course of action in response to the injunction.

The rule, which took effect Jan. 11, allowed visitors to carry a loaded gun into a park or wildlife refuge as long as the person had a permit for a concealed weapon and the state where the park or refuge was located allowed concealed firearms. Previously, guns in parks had been severely restricted.

4. I am a female retired nurse now wildlife rehabber
and own guns. I think this is a bad reversal. If a law abiding person with a carry permit legal in the state where the park is wants to carry their weapon for protection I don't have a problem with it at all. I do resent being called a paranoid freak especially when I am not even through with my first cup of coffee.

5. this only applies in that judge's district, correct? n/t
not really sure how that whole jurisdiction thing works. seems unlikely that one district judge's decision could alter federal law nationwide.

7. It was a federal judge so the district is Federal.
It is a ruling saying there needs to be more revue. I think there needs to be more revue on every single thing Bush* did. If Obama thinks it is a good idea to have people armed in America's sanctuaries then so be it.

8. I camp alone in state and nation parks frequently and I'm always armed
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 10:09 AM by ThomWV
I would not even think about camping alone without a pistol.

On edit: yes, it is concealed and yes I do have the appropriate state permit.
