Is Kieth Obermann the worst person in the world today....
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 01:49 PM by Lost in CT
Should he apologize to Obama for his false reporting and flame fanning on Obama's comments last night...

And Should that perpetually outraged anti-free speech Tim Shriver finally step down from the Special Olympics board. First last years asshattery in attacking the movie Tropic Thunder (and missing the point by a country mile) and once again with his feebleminded perception misinterpreting our president and forcing an unnecessary apology from the leader of the free world.

Honestly Keith Obermann should apologize and Tim Shriver needs to resign... and both of them should be ashamed of this circus.

6. No he didn't the president was making a joke about Jay's very good
Mr President patronizing attitude... He was making fun of the adults at Special Olymic events not the kids... Obermann didn't show tape didn't read transcript... just reported in a faux solemn voice that the President stomped on a puppy or something and dragged it into a ten minute spot of non-news....

The idiot should go work for Fox if he is going to do news this way.

And you say that Keith reported that the "President stomped on a puppy"?

27. Thanks for the links, Lost in CT.
I see that the apparent outrage (mostly by the Repukes) as (1) being blown out of proportion (& I have a mentally-disabled son) & (2) validation that Obama's job performance is so good that there's nothing more serious than this gaffe over which to rake Obama over the coals.

We're getting too thin-skinned as a nation. For the Repukes who may be lurking, we focused on the boy king's gaffes because there were just too many of them for someone who represented this nation.

7. In that case, Keith doesn't deserve WPITW. I don't appreciate fluffing the news.
Save that kind of "reporting" to Fixed News.

I appreciate Keith telling it like it is, warts & all.

Besides, isn't it time to drop this issue? Obama has admitted his error & has apologized for it. That's way classier than what we get from the Repukes who have imitated Michael J. Fox's Parkinsons tremors.

35. He was comparable to Glenn Beck? Was Olbermann crying and distraught?
Did he make absurd, non-sensical comments mixed with crazed giggles and whimpers, like a substance abuser or a psychiatric patient?

I didn't see it, so, if it's that good, I'll have to catch it on a re-run.

21. Your language use shows a complete lack of understanding
if not downright bigotry. Tim Shriver's objective is not to limit free speech it is to shift philosophy in the way people with disabilities are valued.
Useing the word feebleminded with possibly no awareness of it's history shows either ignorance, laziness, or disrespect.
There are clumsy accidents that leave a mark and things that are mean.
We have been fighting for attitude changes that will eliminate the need for us beg for money for services from the government. The institutional barriars and subtle bigotry that lead to job discrimination have kept us unemployed for too long.
President Obama's remarks was clumsy and it left a mark because it reinforced stereotypes. The point is that I want to keep that from happening more- ever at all- by holding the president I supported to the high standard I believe he holds himself to.

Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 02:03 PM by Lost in CT
match at the Special Olympics once his remarks were non-offensive and on target. Leno did sound like those parents. (and there is nothing wrong with that it is kinda sweet)

Calling Shriver feebleminded was me being mean.... Sometimes we want to insult another person... Mr. Shriver is one of those has made it his life's goal to go through the English language removing all the words with sharp corners. I don't like people like that whether they are fundie Christians or well meaning fascists.

Oh and another thing Booger.

That's People first language. It's the goal of the disability community. It is not simple launguage. It is about philosophy.
It amazes me that people who get offended by the "N" word are offended that there are who people do not like language that deisregards and disparages them as people.

People first language is a semantic technique used when discussing disabilities to avoid perceived and subconscious dehumanization of the people having the disabilities.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People-first_language

Every individual regardless of sex, age, race or ability deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. As part of the effort to end discrimination and segregation -- in employment, education and our communities at large -- it's important to eliminate prejudicial language.

29. Who freakin cares?
All I saw Olbermann do was cringe when he heard it. I cringed too.

But anybody with half a brain realizes that (a) it was a gaffe by Obama who will turn out to be by far the best friend Special Olympics has ever had in the White House and (b) Olbermann cringed not because Obama said what he did but because he knew what the idiot US press and broadcast media would do when they heard it.

Turns out he was wrong. The press did not jump into the middle of Obama's shit because they are aware of far worse thinks said by their butt buddies the pukes about disabled kids. Far as I'm concerned the whole thing is a non issue.

31. Olbermann's "attack" and "flame fanning"?
Are you kidding? THere was no "attack". Keith reported what happened. Craig Ferguson characterized it as a misstep. Keith barely said anything about it other than to report what he understood Obama to have said-noting expressly that it was in response to Leno's sarcastic congratulations about the 129 score.

And its my understanding that Obama called Shriver before Shriver knew about it, so how did Shriver "force" Obama's apology?

36. You know Obama never makes a mistake
and for anyone to suggest he has made one is blasphemy. :sarcasm:

Fortunately, Obama does not share this opinion, realized he made a remark that was insensitive and admitted he was wrong and knows better.

Stop and think what we would have done if Bush had made this remark (though he would never have apologized).

39. I wouldn't go that far.
But, Olbermann's cringing and comments, along with Ferguson's, had me worried for no reason.

When I finally saw the comment in context, it seemed to be no big deal. It was barely audible over the laughing and Leno talking.

I do think Olbermann made too much of it before he even saw the video. He was just reading what someone else wrote about it.
