Coleman Attorney: 'I'm Done'; Concedes Franken 'Probably Still Ahead' After Contest Verdict

Coleman Attorney: 'I'm Done'; Concedes Franken 'Probably Still Ahead' After Contest Verdict
Joe Friedberg seems to be throwing in towel, pinning last of hopes on Hail Mary 'Constitutional argument' appeal...

According to a transcript of a radio appearance this week by former Senator Norm Coleman's attorney, Joe Friedberg, the Republican will most likely lose his election contest against Al Franken for the U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota.

Hotline's Jennifer Skalka quotes Friedberg as conceding that Coleman will "probably" lose when the 3-judge panel currently deliberating the case, which both sides rested last week, announce their verdict.

"I think it's probably correct that Franken will still be ahead and probably by a little bit more," Friedberg admitted, after announcing that he was "done" with the case...

3. no it doesn't. I read that the GOP is taking it to the supreme court, using Bush vs Gore as its
precedent. At least that was the talk last week...

Joe Freidberg, the heavyweight Minnesota criminal defense lawyer who's been at the helm of former Sen. Norm Coleman's trial to overturn Democrat Al Franken's win in the recount, said in radio interview that he thinks Franken will come out on top and added they'll be taking their case to the state's high court.

"I think that we've been trying this case with the appeal record in mind, and thats where we're going," Friedberg said in a Wednesday interview with KFAN, a Twin Cities-area sports station.

Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 03:29 PM by barbtries
to announce that you're "done" with a case before the decision has come in? i don't know what to make of this.

eta: now i look at post number 4 which suggests something quite different, i.e., "done" with the lower court, ready for the higher court. hmmm. crock of shit. Seat the senator now, please...

9. And yet, look how the Minneapolis Star-Tribune spins this admission of defeat:

Coleman’s lead lawyer expects victory via appeal

The paper has been spinning for Coleman throughout the court case. I'm not sure if that's due to the political leanings of its new owners (an investment firm) or if it's just to make it look like a horesrace and keep the readers interested.
