What Is The Rationale Of The Repug Governors That Are Refusing Stimulus Funds?.......
is it strictly political? are they hoping that their state legislators will vote for them to take the money - so they can have it both ways? Like - "I refused the money - but took it because the state legislators told me I had to. I'm really against this money."

or are they just stupid?

I know if the Governor of my state refused this stimulus money - he/she would not get my vote the next time around. I don't get it.

3. No rationale, they are doing as they are told, (like they always do).

5. They're all pushing and shoving to go farthest right...
The GOP nominee in 2012 needs the far right wing on his (her) side. Taking a stand against the stimulus burnishes their "I'm more Right Wing than you are" credentials. Of course, once they win the nomination, they'll have to tack left again...which, under the circumstances, is pretty tough work.

7. This issue is no different to them than abortion or flag-burning
They don't live in the economic real world the rest of us do.

They don't know fear, hopelessness or insecurity from the back seats of their limos.

It's all just campaigning to get re-elected. They are completely out of touch with reality.

8. Has to do with politics but also requirements placed on states.
Some of the stimulus money is tied to new federal requirements. For example states accepting help with unemployment benefits are being required to expand their state unemployment insurance programs (paid for by employers into a central fund) to include either part-time workers or those leaving employment voluntarily under certain neediness conditions.

Also most states have balanced budget requirements-they cannot by law run a deficit. Some stimulus funds are for hiring state or local government workers. When the federal money runs out, states may have to lay off, raise taxes to cover-leaving governors in a political bind.

that is my understanding of the controversy. I thin it is a higher tax/states rights kind of thing.

9. They say they don't want their states to be forced to change their laws as required.
In particular, they don't want to expand their unemployment compensation rules.

In other words, they don't want their states to be forced to do the right thing, because their intent is that their states continue to do the wrong thing.

With any luck, it will be their undoing.
