U.S. Postal Service to cut 1,400 jobs and offering early ret to 150,000 - Reuters
I always feel cheated, being a Postal Service Retiree, who didn't get an Early Out.

(Reuters) – The U.S. Postal Service said on Friday it is closing six of its 80 district offices. In addition, administrative staff positions at district level nationwide are being reduced by 15 percent and nearly 150,000 employees nationwide being given opportunity to take an early retirement.

More than 1,400 mail processing supervisor and management positions are also being eliminated.

2. I've been trying to call an old friend who's still working and close.
But, all I get is her answering machine. Last I heard was that it was the same old, same old. 2% per year off for CSRS employees. As for the SS employees, I have no idea.

4. the 2% would be a lump-sum? A one-time payment?

6. 2% off your entitlement for anything under 30 years or 55.
i.e. If you were going to get $2000 per month but had 28 years you'd lose $40 per month.

3. Something weird is happening at the PO. For 10 years I got my mail
between 11:30 & 1:30 every day. Sometimes if there was a sub, it would be 2:30 or later. In the last few weeks, I've been getting the delivery at 9:30 AM! I had a problem with a package the other day and happen to mention that I was surprised at how early the delivery has been, and the Post Master here said "Yea, the mail has been very light lately!" I admit that I converted all the bills I could to delivery via email, and I use bill pay to save on stamp costs, but if my experience is the same for most people, I can see why the PO has to lay people off!

5. I think that much of what the USPS carries is Direct Mail crap.

If you cut that then you will effectively kill the PO.

It wasn't always that way.
